Re: MLB 14 The Show Blog - Online Franchise

Sorry to keep pointing out the important question first asked by me on the 5th page of this thread, but will online franchise carry over to the next versions of the game MLB 15, 16 etc???... if not this whole discussion is mostly useless, and it makes the "online franchise" a mere online temporary short termed season mode. With the ability of carry over for the offline iteration being implemented, it will all but guarantee people would choose an option they can at the very least have a future with "offline"...

Thank you SCEA, for adopting my ideas for a Playoff feature and eventually an 'online franchise'. No credit needed to be given... I am just happy you are working towards it...

It's the base of the game.
If you mean for this year....no way they are adding anything "new"(I don't want to be that guy....but perhaps some of the online improvements missing from offline this year can be added via an update)...but as far as writing in new code for '14....definitely not.
If you mean for '15 and beyond?......I'm nearly 100% sure things like this will be added. That's just from talking to Aaron/Luis and Lance about how they envision franchise mode to be. They have some really, really great ideas on the direction. They just need the time to implement them.

Yep, definitely for '15 and beyond... Thanks Knight

Offline still has some things that online doesn't....it's close but not exactly the same....one being manage only mode...another could be saved games.

I seriously doubt that the online/offline franchise mode is what "held up" this game in terms of release.
The enormity of a new game "held up" the release...and I'm guessing stadiums were the largest contributing factor.

You probably didn't see my other post - does that include the ps4? The reason I ask you is because you seem to have more information than I.

I'm not a bit upset as long as MoM is available for the ps4 and although I'd probably pay the extra cash to play online, offline is fine.

For me, they have made some major improvements to offline franchise. Online got more love but offline got a big hug. Maybe I'm just easier to please than some.

Regarding online franchise, I was involved in something similar years ago with Tony LaRussa baseball when my son and several of his buddies all got in a league together. They would play on my computer in my basement. It was not online obviously but similar in that there were several user controlled teams. The biggest problem was getting people's personal schedules aligned so they could play their games. If one guy goes on vacation or something similar and the whole league grinds to a halt unless you sim and not everybody wanted to do that. By the time the season ended most of the guys had lost interest. They were teenagers who not surprisingly found more exciting things to do but there were hurdles in that experience which I can see cropping up in mlbts online franchises. You need dedicated, hard core franchise guys who are willing to set aside time for the game to make it work. Similar to fantasy baseball, not everybody who wants to join in April will still be interested in August. One other thing - you need a commissioner willing to make some tough decisions on trades. People can and will try to rip off the cpu on trades. One way to do it is put it up for vote but inevitably there will be disgruntled people.

I've found it impossible to successfully get through a season in an online league (in any sport) with more than a couple of people in the league...players quit playing and you're rarely online at the same time. There needs to be an option in any of these online franchises to send a player invite from the team selection screen...then you could set up an online franchise with just a couple of people and play the non-player controlled teams/games against your buddy with whom you're in the league with...otherwise it's all for not IMO. I don't want to play the cpu. Other than that I'm pretty stoked about the online play in general, last year was the first year where most games I played were relatively lag free.

You are telling me that I can start a franchise with only 15 teams in the entire league? I can just eliminate the entire National League from existence? That doesn't seem right.

I haven't seen the PS4 version yet....but I would definitely say that MoM is in the offline franchise.
Ramone wouldn't give me a heart attack like that.

Is this implying that fantasy drafts are user team only? Just curious if anyone had some insight.
This was my question as well because I don't have 5 other friends who will buy this game. To me, this reads that I can't do an online franchise w/ a fantasy draft until there are at least 6 human players participating.

I am pretty certain they are referring to teams. So it would be 1 human and 5 CPU.
