I think basketball made significantly less than football did, but between the two games at the time (CH and NCAA), there were pretty good sales. Separately, they didn't do very well.

I agree. Overall, sales obviously had to be doing good otherwise the franchises would've ended a long time ago. Apart from O'Bannon vs. NCAA, I see no other indicators as to why EA/2k would quit producing the games.

I'm thinking a few years at the least.... football will be the only one to come back, however.

I really think college sports wont be around for some time, and if it does pop up son it wont be the way most of us would like it to be.

Until kids get paid , there isn't a way for these games to get made, unless its 100 % fictional, which i know for one i am not playing a game with fake colleges and universities.

CHoops 2K ended after 2K8 when the CLC jacked up the licensing fee. At that point 2K walked away which has always led me to believe that profits were lean. Although I don't have any numbers to back that up.

But would you play it if you could in :30 seconds download a roster file that a group of OS'er created with all the players, logos, Stadiums etc?

I think we're screwed unfortunately. As you said, the lawsuit EA was facing is a frightening precedent for any would be developers, and you can bet that there would be a line of lawyers waiting to jump on the first company willing to take the chance. Damn you Ed O'Bannon!!!
