All they mean is they loop through their AI routine X times a second not that the players change their mind on what they're doing that many times a second. For example if a player is running he's making sure that his path is clear. They're not swerving and changing animations that fast, they're just keeping themselves updated with where they are and where other players are (much like humans are constantly using their eyes to scan their environment) and checking for any imminent problems like tacklers, an incoming ball etc.

This does not mean that their system is effective or great (I do hope it will be), but there is no reason to knock it due to the speed they claim, it is perfectly reasonable.

I dunno, I think it's completely reasonable to knock their claims just based on past claims and what the final product entailed.

I hear what you're saying from a technical standpoint, but from a practical standpoint I've had receivers/running backs on the short side of the field running routes out of bounds with zero situational awareness where the sideline is for about 25 years or so now, so forgive my skepticism, lol.

When these little dudes just stop running out of bounds, or God forbid turn up their route or come back to the ball, then we will be on to something!

Yes that is beautiful bro..these are the kind of animations we should have next gen...

Another thing i absolutely HATE about madden are the animations of players on the field AFTER the whistle blows....when the whistle blows its like all animations cease to exist and suddenly these super generic robot pivot animations come into play...it sticks out like a SORE THUMB that it totally ruins the atmosphere of Madden. Why cannot these developers simply "get it"??

These small things make such a HUGE HUGE difference. I mean someone posted a clip of APF2k8 and you clearly see how in that game after the whistle blows if a player is running full speed and suddenly the play is over and the whistle blows..the player seamlessly goes from the in-game running animation into a nice smooth jogging or smooth walking animation in which the player jogs or walks back to the huddle for the next play (in a natural looking way)...it is EXACTLY THIS that totally hampers the visual fidelity of Madden and they have NO EXCUSE for not fixing this because of say...current gen console limitations because All Pro Football 2k8 did it so good...so if they could do it on xbox 360 hardware that is dated as heck.. obviously there is a "malfunction" going on with the aptitude of these Tiburon dev's if they cannot see this sticking out as a sore thumb...it truly is an eye sore!

My question is, did it really take next gen processing just to add "true step" and improved o-line/d-line interaction? Oh and the little bit of graphical update?

Something I am interested to see is if the QB animations are in the game. If playing with some one like Romo with his quick release will feel different than a Tebow who has a windmill wind up.

Newton's release looked relatively accurate. Line play looks much improved... this is making me much more optimistic about next month than where I was a few weeks ago.

I just hope the next gen version plays better than current gen. I want to see some actual gameplay..

Oh, for sure, I get that the players do some dumb stuff and EA hasn't proven that they won't continue to do so yet. My point was from a technical standpoint many of the things you said did not make sense.

This has nothing to do with how fast the AI runs.

Again, this has nothing to do with how fast the AI runs. Every time it runs it does not always start a new "situation".

The AI doesn't change its mind each time it runs a loop, it's updating its surroundings and sometimes it will decide to change what it's doing and change animations for example.

I've seen a lot of people have a similar point, "There's no way there're running at X speed, Madden's AI is always dumb". The speed does not mean the AI is smarter, it can help. The smartness is from what the AI decides to do.

For example if you held your hand over your eyes for 1 second every other second you might have a harder time doing things (walking, driving etc.), but your IQ would sill be the same. You'd just have a harder time knowing what's going on in your surroundings. You'd still make good decisions when you could see, but you'd be in the dark sometimes.

What EA has said does't necessarily mean the AI is better. I'm staying a skeptic too. People keep knocking the AI because it sounds so fast and too good to be true, but in all reality what they said from technical and a practical standpoint doesn't really tell us much at all.

I hope you don't feel like I'm attacking you (I'm not at all). I've just see this thought a lot and had to get this of my chest. If we're going to be mad a Madden's AI let's be mad for a reason that makes sense!
