Re: EA Sports Will Not Publish College Football Game Next Year, Future Plans in Doubt

Ultimately, the problem is that the NFL doesn't have a Developmental League for 18-21 year olds.

As of right now, if you're 18 and want to play in the NFL, you have no choice. You have to go to college (even if you don't want to), and you have to agree to work like a dog for years and get no pay while living under a Byzantine series of rules that other students don't have to live under, and the payoff is that you get your education for free, except that you have to appease your coaches who will dangle that scholarship over your head while they actively do everything in their power counter to you getting a quality education.

The NFL with their anti-trust exemption has quietly turned a loosely affiliated group of universities in America into their developmental league, most of which are funded at the taxpayers expense. And the sad thing is that students and the universities are fighting each other more and more over who gets the increasingly large chunk of the pie, meanwhile the NFL just reaps the rewards by creating years of buzz and marketing around players they haven't even had to pay yet.

If the NFL were forced to create a D-League for 18-21 year old players, then potential players would have a choice. They could join the D-League and play for (low) pay, or they could go to college and play, but they have to agree to play for scholarships. If players had free choice in this matter, most of these legal issues would dry up.

Would that affect the quality of college football? Sure. So what. I loved watching it when most teams were terrible. Most people who love college football love it for the pageantry, not the quality of play on display.

if you really think about it, what has A&M really done for manziel? offer him a place to play? a free place to stay valued at maybe $500/month? some food? clothes?

Manziel's jersey makes money for the athletic department, who in turn, uses that revenue to pay for the expenses of every sports program they run. (because football is the money maker for athletic departments. Occasionally basketball.) It pays for equipment, uniforms, facilities, etc. It's not like the school just hoards that money for itself. Nor should Manziel.

You're trying to make an argument against something that has existed in our country since our independance and somehow making Manziel an exception.

And how ar eyou determining 25K? That seems kind of low when your including books, tuition, free meals on a daily basis that probably add over $1000. They get free strength and conditioning programs at a permier level that most people on the street couldn't even afford.

Athletes nowadays get open ended credit cards to use on University campus for whichever they wish, all included in their "scholarship".

okay back on the topic of this game, has EA confirmed that they'll be taking down the servers for NCAA 14 or will they leave them up for the foreseeable future as 2k did with College Hoops 2k8?

Rumors are theyare taking them down after season, but I don't think I believe that. The only way I think they are taking them down is if it was part of the settlement, as a way of preventing rosters to be passed around.

More and more it's not going to "equipment, uniforms, facilities, etc." nor is it being hoarded by the schools. It's being hoarded by coaches, whose salaries have skyrocketed in recent years.

Between 2006 and 2011, SEC football coaches salaries rose on average 128% at a time when their instructional faculty only had a 15% increase in salary.

In 26 states in the US, the highest paid state employee is a football coach at a public university.

Nick Saban's salary ($5.3 mil) is enough to pay the full years tuition of an entire 85 member football team, and still have $3.2 mil to play around with.

Being that the NCAA Football series was the only sports game I purchased every year since it began, I am very, very disappointed by this but life goes on. I'll just put the $60 I spent on this game every year towards Madden. I wasn't a big fan of Madden before, but I am now.

Well, here's to hoping all of that talent and resources at EA make one heck of a next gen title. I have been avoiding Madden for years on current gen.. looks like if I want to pay footbal, it will have to be Madden.

Crap.
