My impressions of the game-play footage:

FIRST VIDEO:
- 0:17: Driving in the paint, CPU offball defender is protecting the paint heavily letting an open 3pt. In this situation the offball defender should stay with his match-up and only help on his right side (he should not giving a help like in video when he goes to the paint behind his teamate)
- Proper fast break execution and good defense returning. They are not jogging back.

SECOND VIDEO:
- 0:16 -> Durant changes speed and direction when Westbrook passes the ball to him. Just like in 2k13 -> not good
- 0:20 -> Contested shot in the paint and miss -> OK but it should be a faul due to defender biting (jump) on pump fake
- 0:23 -> very good defensive segment. McCaleb is poorly trying to drive into the paint but defender can maintain his position -> Very promising
- 0:26 -> Beautiful bounce pass and finishing.

THIRD VIDEO:
- 0:16->0:19: check Sefalosha movement around Perkins screen. He starts promising (fast), then Perkins sets a screen and Sefalosha stops for a moment and then continues to move. On the other side, bad user defense. Durant defender literally walks around screen and he is contesting the shot way to late.
- 0:40: OKC semi fast-break. Bogdanovic (man who is guarding Durant) is walking at the beginning back do defense, when he passes "invisible line" (around center), he starts to run directly into the paint and then closing the gap between him and Durant. On other hand, Durant is spreading the floor and waiting for the pass and easy 3pt.
- 0:55: Durant is going to double Bogdanovic, but he changes his mind and unfortunately he's making a screen to his teammate. When Bogdanovic drives into the paint, Durant pays no attention what is going on. Also Ibaka cant contest layup. Since the CPU is playing OKC it gives me some worries.

You can't just say this universally. It depends on the ballhandler and the shooter who's being left open. I'd leave Ray Allen if LeBron was trying to get to the basket.

Re: nba 2k14 gameplay (euroligue)

Still see that stupid steal animation at 0:41 in the first video where the ballhandler loses his balance for no reason.

and I hope we don't see a lot of players stopping on a dime for a pull up like at 1 minute mark

Otherwise looks a lot smoother as far as I can tell.

Personally I love this level of detail but I can't see the devs (who are already busy trying to put 3500 new animations in the game) putting this in for the 8% of gamers who want this level of realism. I'm not even sure if I want it (and I really dig Sim), because now i have to remember which of my players can finish with their left?

Instead of spending time changing the layup packages to limit left handed layups, spend some time improving Online Associations or myPlayer? Or give us something new like a General Manager mode? Put a realistic draft combine or Summer League back in? Improve the basic Association mode with more off season tasks like building team morale or a more in depth Free Agency? There are **** loads of Association features that haven't changed since 2K11. Free agency is HUGE in the real NBA, for alot of people guessing where players are ending up and the rumor mill in real life is lots of fun.

TL;DR There are lots of other (larger) areas in the game we'd like the devs to spend their time than trying to modify a left handed layup.
Yes, blowing layups cause he is using his off hand... yes, it NEEDS to be in the game...why? cause it happens in the NBA... this is common sense with anyone who plays basketball, even casuals (even little kids who play pickup in their driveways/parks know not to finish with their off hands). And the exact reason why that I have suggested that they inform the consumer either through a video (gameplay updates) training course (dribbling) and/or pop-up tips during the game (when it happens).

Deep down you really don't want this... cause as you said... you're not sure that you even want this type of realism... well ****... lets just let kobe/melo/lbj shoot with their left with no penalties. Or how about we let little timmy run around back and forth shoot wildly without penalty because it might be tough for them to understand why they are not making every shot... SMH and you supposedly would love this level of detail and you really dig sim... really now?

I'm not for limiting layup packages to exclude lefty lays... as I stated in bold (first sentence too) underline in my post... just assess a penalty.

Quote:
There is no need to get rid of the animation/stop players from being able to do it... just... a penalty assessed for off hand (lay/dunks)
/rant mode

Now look, I am not wanting to come off harsh... its just that as someone who truly loves the sport, I want to see it represented properly and if we start to make concessions on fundamental parts of basketball then it will never get to the point to where it can be represented properly.

This looks barely different from 2k13. I think in previous Gamescom videos for previous iterations, the changes were a lot more noticeable. If the game still looks like this once 2k releases official gameplay videos, then I'll either just hope for the PS4 version, or skip this one all together.

It's still early but I'm not impressed, at all.

I can't wait for Ronnie to start the hype machine again for a product that will look exactly like 2K13.

Re: NBA 2K14 Gameplay Videos - Euroleague

The closer we can get the game to sim the sport, the better (am referring to left/right hand layups/shots) ... it can even improve the fun if 2K, as jw55 stated, "educates" its customers to be more successfull at playing the game.

On the other hand, those that really want better graphics, despite whatever have been done before, need to go with next gen version.

Unlike current gen, next gen consoles are supposedly built in such a way, that we shall never see again the "that version graphics were better than this". I wasnt expecting the next gen graphics apparent huge upgrade (judging solely from the LBJ trailer), but I am definitively expecting a LOT more of gameplay, atmosphere and general content HUGE upgrades/additions, not only due to the prowess of the new consoles but also due to both now having blue ray discs.

P.S:
Hopefully we can get a true indepth (no time limit) gameplay video, that not only states the new additions but also the tweaked ones, compared to past versions ... I was a lover of the past (pre 2k12) form of written indepth articles, wish the video does them justice ... ultimately tho, would be great to have some devs lurk such thread (a bit more) and dissipate most doubts.
