Yeah, the short yardage threshold surprises me too. I was sure it wasn't anything more than 10.

We definitely need more "The Science of..." articles for each position explaining what the ratings mean. As well as the traits.

Re: Top Rated Offensive Players in Madden NFL 25 & the Science of QB Ratings

This reminds me of how much I hate the awareness rating.
Why does it affect trajectory? Isn't trajectory like putting the right amount of touch on the ball? And if so shouldn't that fall under THA?

Then you got guys like Big Ben who are bad at picking up pressure but good at the other awareness aspects. So what should his awareness be? I don't like having one rating affect multiple things. Also the article said here are few things it affects, so was the list exhaustive or are there other things? I always thought it determined how fast a QB goes through his progressions.

Two other things:
1. "Aaron Rodgers has a deep accuracy rating of 87, which means that 87% of Rodgers’ deep throws are on target."
What? Is that really how it works?? Need to hear more on this

2. An explanation on the playaction rating would be nice (actual in depth explanation; not just higher rating means PA is more successful)

We need detailed explanations of all the ratings.

I'm waiting to see how Peyton's Throw Power is because his arm isn't what it used to be, and Madden probably won't really mess with it.

For the overall thing, Madden 13's last update had like 150 or so players that were 90+ (FBGratings has only seven elite players now, which is realistic), that's nearly three teams of all 90+ players, which is just dumb. 90+ should be for only elite players and there aren't 150+ that are elite. Matt Ryan(despite how much I like him) isn't an elite QB like Rodgers or Brady. Any stat that is 90+ should mean the player is elite at that particular thing (pass block/throw power/man coverage/etc.) but Donny Moore just throws ratings off of just stats(like Aldon Smith having a huge spike in ratings because of his giant sack totals, but only being an elite pass rusher doesn't make you great. It didn't help that when Justin Smith went down, Aldon performed worse.) It needs to be a combo of stats/scout research/numbers from combine and what not, not just stats.
This is what happens when you have a guy more passionate about soccer doing a really important job for a football game. He knows nothing about the real NFL. FBGRatings put him to shame, I'm sorry to say. Everything is inflated and the ratings themselves are simply more proof that Madden is not a simulation, but a video game designed to provide fun on the couch for buddies to scream and yell at every big play. I can't wait to see the 350 yard rushing games from AP and 600 yards passing from Stafford throwing to Megatron.

When I look and see the REAL work put in by Dan over at FBG, I just get depressed, because that's the real passion and talent that's needed to truly make a realistic game. Dan has forgotten more about players and abilities than the so-called "czar" will ever know. To me, this is one of Madden's biggest blemishes and it's a huge black eye. Any of us could watch sports center each night and make the ratings the way he does. What a shame...
