If NCAA isn't going to do a deal with EA Sports, they're not going to do a deal with any other company.

You young whippersnappers are too young to remember Bill Walsh College Football, which was one of the best football games to ever be produced and had no NCAA or university affiliation. You instead played with "College Station" and "Michigan" (common state name that is under public use) and "Columbus".

Re: NCAA 2014 = THE END!

To me this screams of "EA is going to lose that lawsuit" and we are out!

No more college games makes me sad

Right...you guys need to read carefully:

Quote:
As a result, the NCAA Football 2014 video game will be the last to include the NCAA’s name and logo. We are confident in our legal position regarding the use of our trademarks in video games. But given the current business climate and costs of litigation, we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA.
It's because of the O'Bannon lawsuit going on right now, which the game has a lot to do with.

Re: NCAA 2014 = THE END!

This is the fallout from the O'Bannon suit. Even though that hasn't been decided yet, it's clear the NCAA doesn't want any other legal ramifications from a video game.

Sad day for gamers, though. I've been playing NCAA from the very beginning, which means the Bill Walsh days of the early 1990's.

RIP NCAA then. In this day and age there's no way EA (or 2k or anyone else for that matter) can do an unlicensed College Football game.

Also, don't forget the last part of the press release:

Quote:
Member colleges and universities license their own trademarks and other intellectual property for the video game. They will have to independently decide whether to continue those business arrangements in the future.
Each school will see the value and money that can be made off signing contracts with EA Sports independently. I'm sure many, if not all, universities will choose to keep their name/logos in the game.
