I can't speak for anyone else, but for me;

Because I remember the days when the "user" had to time tackles, we had to press the "move" buttons a certain way to get different "types" of moves, we had, way back on PS2 a balanced game, though not flawless it did not overly favor offense year after year.

Because we had full formation subs, custom sub packages, the ability to call two plays in the huddle.

Because a lot of us played a game 9 years ago that had the "Assassin's Creed avoidance" move. Because Backbreaker had a move modifier and the idea was, imo, better because it was used to differentiate between power and finesse moves rather than "regular or super moves".

Because player movement was smoother, more fluid, and in many ways more realistic on PS2, again 9 years ago.

Because for like 9 years we have been waiting for them to fix the "sim" engine to utilize multiple backs and produce realistic stats.

And most importantly for me, because we have been told for a few years now - "maybe next year" on OL/DL interactions, WR/DB interactions and the list goes on and on.

We are, for many of us, 5 years behind where we envisioned we would be at this point on these consoles and when you hear things like "Heat Seeker Tackling" you roll your eyes and fully expect, based on past performance, that EA just gave us another "arcade gimmick" rather than a fleshed out balancing of the game...

My opinion is because this is largely a simulation gameplay type of crowd at OS, and Madden still seems to be half-sim, half-arcade. The direction they are going in is promising, but there are issues that have been going on since the beginning of this generation of consoles that haven't been touched. This gives the impression that the team doesn't listen to the community, and it's hard to argue against that.

Now onto a different topic and i'd like people to comment on it with their thoughts:

This Run Free sounds extremely promising, not so much the trucking part, but the player movement and precision button or w.e they call it where you can set up your blocks. This is the first step in getting realistic running and movement into Madden and NCAA.

The next issue NEEDS to be how the defense reacts to user inputs. You know, like on a punt return, when you hit left on the analog stick, and all 11 people on the other team (at least the ones that aren't engaged in a block) turn with you the millisecond you touch the stick.

This whole Run Free stuff is great, but we still can't really pull off runs that look true to life, because in the game to get a great run, you have to run around everybody - whereas in real life, there are great runs where the runner knives through the defenders; Just look at an elite returner or fast running backs highlight tape and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Any opinions?

EDIT:

I don't think any of these returns would be possible in Madden with the defenders behaving the way they do.

I think more "real life" runs will be possible. At least I hope so.
The main thing is if fatigue works as promised.
If so then you can't spin like crazy at the line and juke then once through the line have enough stamina for that burst to cut through the D.
And then there's the whole "Ratings will matter more" ingredient...

Excited to see some real gameplay to see some of these answers.

If the fatigued implementation works along with auto subs and being able to create packages outside of the game, then the depth of the gameplay will be increased by a lot. However, the AI needs to be fixed first imo

Everyone always gushes over madden details every year. Everyone is mad this time.

Seems like the community has had enough.

Good to see nobody is drinking this 8 year old koolaide.

Again, I would rather what ever the "heat seeker" button is, be a reach for the tackler mechanic but the the EAGC describes it, it doesn't seem as bad as the "ball hawk". The ball hawk will actually take over your player, which imo, goes too far but the heat seeker is stated to not move your player for you.

I think the ball hawk should be toned down to be just a more aggressive int attempt and not the complete relinquishing of User control. If a User wants to do that, they can just move the player into position, then switch off, like the old days. The actual assist button seems to completely take way from User error, which I don't like. I recently stated I would like a feature like this for KR/PR but on second thought, it would be better to just have an option to control any of the 11 players on KR/PR, so someone could just let the CPU return/punt/kick, if they want to.
Agree and understand! I was under the impression heat seeking tackling would take over your player for you... Where does it state that it won't?

I'm relieved by that assurance and understand the direction, but am tired of this dealing with symptoms when issues would disappear with a more holistic approach.

Re: Madden NFL 25 Trailer - Run Free

Read these articles about this new running style, then saw this trailer, and saw some guy in a Packer uniform get run over and flew back like 6 feet and immediately closed the video and started searching for the thread about the exclusive license cause I've had it.... My expectations went from down here ___

To down here ____

Re: Madden NFL 25 Trailer - Run Free

One thing I never quite got about EA is how much people want to play SIM sports. There is a reason more people probably play NR2003/iRacing than the newer NASCAR games, because it feels like you are really racing the cars.

Anyway back to the point, why can't they do a thing similar to 2k where there is arcade style and simulation style. Just because the NFL is a more pass happy/offensive league, doesn't mean defense should just be left to just sit there when there is so much they need to change, like defensive line men feeling /playing different where you have a guy like JPP speed rushing the edge, compared to say a Dwight Freeney, where he beats with a spin move and not just with his speed. So much needs to be fixed on defense and in the trenches that I don't think running should be the top priority, but whatever, not like EA listens to people who play the game the most.
