Re: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 Developers Provide Some Details on Upcoming Patch

Posted in the official forum this morning by the game's Executive Producer, Sean Wilson:

"We are about to submit the patch to first party in the next day or so and than it will just be a matter of how long it takes to approve before it arrives. Usually these things take a couple weeks obut we'll see. I'm out of the office so my communication will be light this week. Accessing this forum on a mobile phone is too frustrating. However the patch is still coming so please don't take my lack of communication this week as a sign anything has changed."

This can't come soon enough for me!

My pleasure to post that news... it's going to be a loooooooong two weeks though. YosemiteDan responded to the news by saying: " Look at the bright side, it will feel like a brand new game again once we get it. Kinda like TW14.5"

That's not an overstatement in my case. The disjointed putting camera production continues to leave me feeling isolated from the most intimate part of the game. The restoration of the stationary Follow putting camera alone will turn it into Tiger 14.5 for me! The stat, dodgy information boxes, scoring, set for one hole only swing camera, frozen H2H player camera, and injudicious cut application being fixed are icing on the cake

Geez JC, you left out the best part of that statement. i promise not to make the same joke out of it.

Anyways while I appreciate the devs interaction this year, sometimes you have to nudge them to remind them that us gamers need some specifics once in awhile because most of us have been waiting patiently.

I actually did PM Sean this morning and told him we need more specifics on this patch because the natives are restless (myself included) and they were MIA the last few days and that had some of us worried. He responded quickly and told me not to worry and that it should be submitted tomorrow and said that him and Handsward were out of the office this week so they have been absent on the boards because of it. He then made the thread that you referenced about the status of the patch so he did listen to me and acted accordingly and helped address growing concerns with his post.

I'm playing to a different audience here, so I've got to mix up my material a little bit. I already knew I didn't need to give you any more ammunition, as you've demonstrated you're not afraid to pull the trigger!

Thanks for doing that, but I'm a bit surprised that it took some nudging to remind him that something like that needed to be done. None the less, it was reassuring to read and now we at least know when the patch got submitted.

So in other words we all paid 60-70 bucks to be alpha/beta testers and the game really won't be finished until the patch comes out? (NO WONDER EA JUST GOT VOTED WORSE COMPANY OF THE YEAR...AGAIN!)

I should have recalibrated myself a few years back to think of the Tiger patch date as the real release date for the game. Problem is I wouldn't have the discipline to hold off the purchase until then

I think this is a very unfair post. The current state of the console market, and sports games in particular, is one where games generally require a patch after release. That applies to EA games as well as beloved developers like the folks who make The Show. There is certainly a reasonable argument that the new release then issue a major patch era of gaming isn't necessarily gamer friendly (I disagree, remembering the days of the no-patch era) but singling out EA as if it is an outlier in this regard is disingenuous and unconstructive.
