EA forums are jumping. A lot of insightful info there as well as some good banter as well.

I feel ya. I always wished there was a way to just license the PGA tour and have access to the whole thing all tournaments and players, but unfortunately that us not the world we live in its sad because I loved the idea of the Ryder cup I just didn't like it was an end of career thing. But I must commend you all for the things you have done over the years. Especially with getting Augusta. That is the crown jewel of them all. And I love it because this is as close as I'll ever be to playing there. So pass my thanks for that onto whoever deserves it.

A couple of years back I thought an AI scoring slider would be a good idea and the next year the different AI levels was introduced. I don't know if they got that from me but that's my story and I'msticking to it.

And some good news about career mode that I just found out today from the EA site. Apparently season stats in career is back in there (shouldn't have been taken out in the first place) so some good news for us stat hounds who like to see how we fare against the rest of the AI field during the season.
EXCELLENT news about the season stats!! Thanks for the heads up, Seymour.

Just played a handful of rounds of the demo and finally shot under par (-1) on sim settings for once. It's about damn time lol. I also nailed some nice 17 and 33 ft putts. I'm on the come up! (Not really, I'm still sucking pretty bad.)

One thing that pissed me off though was landing in some brush on one of the holes at Royal Birkdale. I ended up exceeding the shot limit because I couldn't get out of it. It's almost like trying to hit your ball through a brick wall when you get in a bad spot.

Just my $.02

Another major factor was the fact that you could zoom out to the exact landing point your ball would hit giving the user way too much information to make the swing with. I am sorry that some of you feel the yardages need to be in the Simulation mode, but how many times have you seen a PGA TOUR Pro miss the fairway even when they thought they aimed their shot to the right area and executed the shot the way they intended? It happens more than most of you think.

Tour Pro's miss greens and fairways because hitting a golfball the exact distance and direction you are aiming is hard. Sometimes they hook/slice it, other times they hit a flier or catch it fat. It is rarely, if ever, because of a lack of info about the course or yardages.

Leaving the yardages out forces users to:

a) learn their club distances
The clubs distances are already in the game via the HUD

b) learn the course layouts and hazard locations
Again, you figure this out ahead of time and have it available to you during your round. You DONT figure this out during the round.

c) brings the rough BACK into play
If the rough isn't in play, its because the swing mechanic is too easy to perfect.

d) learn to use the HUD as it tells you every thing you need to know to make an approach shot
Except yardages, green shape, terrain details on the green, hazards around the green, etc.....

e) learn to manage the risk/reward factor when driving the ball
This has always been in the game

This is certainly more realistic than being able to zoom out and see yardage markers or a camera that shows where your ball will land when aimed. Should there be yardage markers that you can see while zoomed above the golfers shoulder as in Simulation mode? I can see making a case for that as long as the yardage markers give some sort of indication where the aiming marker is at, I get that. Lets see how this works out in the final game release. Human nature is to resist change. I was not a fan of not having yardage markers at first, but I have since come to want to play without these yardages as it is an extreme test of how well you can manage the course from the Golfer's perspective. Again, I respect those who feel differently now, but lets circle back and discuss this again a month or two after the game is released and we will see how realistic the impact to scoring is. You guys may be right and I may be wrong, but at least EA is giving you the option to play the game the way YOU want to play and there are options for those wanting even more challenge.

Making the game harder via limited info isn't the same as making it closer to the real thing. Thats our argument. And nobody is complaining that they can't customize it to their desire. It's the fact that EA has marketed a "SIMULATION" mode thats not simulation, and in fact, is simply limiting the info any decent golfer uses in a tournament round.

It is very difficult to recover when you hit it in the trees. Not that you can't get a club on the ball but just seeing a way to escape. I think this is where you need to be able to step back from the ball, try to find an opening then execute the shot. Usually, I just try to go sideways, which a pro will have to do occasionally, but rarely.

Re: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions (PS3, 360)

A few questions....

If I do not buy the Historic copy, is there a driving range to practice on in the regular copy?

Could someone comment on the "Strike" feature and how it works?

I think I understand but am not sure. First, I see the Tab but how do you toggle from "Stance" to "Strike"; which button do you hit (PS3)? Any and all info is appreciated or a link where it explains it.

Thanks.

Did you try using one of your wedges to get out of it. I could understand using a mid iron and not getting it out but if you get stuck in there and can't even get a wedge to plop it back out to the fairway then there's a problem that needs to be patched.

Which hole was it and which side of the rough? Now I wanna try it and see what works.
