Re: Some MLB 2K13 Ratings Revealed, Along with a Few Shaky-Cam Videos and Impressions

I appreciate the videos. Mostly it looks like MLB 2K12, which is good for me.

But I will also say this is a good example of why 2K ought to be promoting their freaking game. Flying through at-bats, ignoring inside edge information, turing off the strike zone so you lose batter's eye all make the game seem way more shallow than it is. You are not familiar with 2K12, so it seemed like you didn't understand the overuse signal.

I know you have limited time, and I don't blame you for opting for aesthetics over data, but it kind of highlights why so many people don't get what 2K did that made 2K12 such a good game. Obviously aesthetics is not one of those.

Thanks for posting these videos. Looks pretty much the same, which to me isn't a terrible thing. I really enjoy 2k12. I didn't see anything new or stand out over 2k12.

I think I'll be sticking 2k12 with 25 anticipation for a while, may just change my camera angles to give it a new game feel. I'll keep in touch on this thread to see what your other impressions are.

I'm sure I'll get 2k13, just not yet. THanks again

It could be worse... Prog Field looks good, that's my best compliment. Yet I'll still end up with it this week.

I wasn't trying to fly through at-bats, but I turn that stuff off because I want to call my own game. I just like to turn off stuff that's clogging the screen.

Most of all, the Batter's Eye annoys me to no end. No, turning off the strike zone doesn't turn off Batter's Eye, turning off Batter's Eye turns off Batter's Eye. I take that back, it doesn't turn it completely off... there's a slider in this game that indicates the frequency that it appears, and I turned it down to zero.

The game's default batting camera, default pitching speed, default ball trail, default umpire volume... everything makes this game appear hideous in my personal opinion. Or at least, if you compare it to a game that seems to get a lot more praise like The Show, and you see that this game flashes you with obscure things that that game doesn't, and you can't help but wonder why they continue with that scheme.

I just wanted to end this by saying I think you're talking to the wrong person.

I know everything that 2K12 has to offer, and IE all started with 2K6. It was a fun feature way back when and it still has good value today, but then MLB 2K8 turned me around when they introduced that new pitching mechanic, and they even offered you the ability to hide the right stick maneuvers on screen, which was so awesome. I think that was just a new enamoring thing for me, and I love clean screens for authenticity's sake. If I want to look up a player's stuff, I like to press pause to do it.

I thought this new look would be preferred to what I always see if I look up 2K gameplay videos online. I tried to deviate from that to show people who are often turned off by what this game "tends" to look like to them, and this was kind of a statement that it can be made to look a bit different. Maybe that didn't quite come across the right way.

This is the laziest developed video game since ET.

Re: Some MLB 2K13 Ratings Revealed, Along with a Few Shaky-Cam Videos and Impressions

It's not a big deal. I like to call my own game to. But I base it both on my pitcher's strengths and the hitter's weaknesses. I don't have the IE reports memorized in the same way a major league pitcher does, not is it something I want to do to prepare.

I also adjust camera's for hitting, but leave the authentic pitcher's view. It different for each stadium based on where the set the camera for broadcast.

And yes, you can turn the batter's eye off by itself, but you can't have without the strike zone being on. I'd like it if they made available without the strike zone. Maybe this year!

On its face, getting a flash of what pitch is coming and a general location seems gimmicky and cheap. In practice, it differentiates the ability some hitters like Pujols have in guessing pitches over scrubs. But it mean having the strike zone up.

I don't mind the cursor so much anymore, as the main reason I wanted it gone was to make it harder to throw strikes. But I play with pitch accuracy at 5 or 10, and hitting spots is not easy.

And I find myself using the DPad to bring up IE and figuring out when I want to throw my out pitch and where in the zone is better.

The Show seems to lack a lot of this info, and feels like it just kind of mindless. I'm choosing pitches, but they aren't based on real data. I'm just doing the same old, mix speed, in and out, try to get the guy fishing when I'm ahead stuff over and over.

But this is why 2K ought to be doing videos.

After watching those videos...I think I'm going with this game this year. I need a break from the other game. Yes, this game has issues and is clunky at times, but the colors and the stadium atmosphere and the commentary just pop more then the other game.

One question, is the cam when the ball is in play while batting changeable? Not the batting cam, but once the ball is in play.

Yeah, I will be picking this up!

Well, you'll see that between my first video and my next two videos, I changed the view. Unfortunately it has only two presets: Home Plate and Follow. Home Plate is the first one, and I really dislike it. Follow is a bit better, and you can adjust height and zoom or something like that. I tried to make it kind of far out, but I obviously wasn't given enough options like the Fielding cam gives you.

But like I said, 2K10 didn't have this stuff at all. I'm just glad this game does.
