Re: MLB 13 The Show - Beginner Mode Impressions

People need to remember that people new to baseball do need this kind of help and even on here, there have been plenty of threads about hitting being too hard...yes, we know when to look for fastballs or when to pitch inside or out, move the runner over, etc but they may not. Being that this franchise is not making a ton of money right now, I welcome anything to keep it alive before it goes away like NCAA baseball and 2K did. This may not be the mode for us, but there is still every reason to support it. You know what, I'm not afraid to say that even a knowledgeable person like myself still keeps pitch speed slow to recognize offspeed pitches because the framerate limitations prevents them from putting in an accurate spin on the ball while pitched.

I'm not sure why you can't wrap your head around the fact that most NEW players to the game say the hitting is too hard.
This was added to help newcomers and hopefully KEEP those newcomers playing the game(as they get better like all of you guys responding about this)...you know in order to grow the user base for the game.
This isn't an entirely new mode...but a new level of difficulty for the game.
It's not a new difficulty level, but like I said, a "hand-holding" mode of the game for those who haven't discovered batting/pitching practice. I'm not sure why you and other's can't wrap your brains around the fact that there's already a game mode designed to help people learn to hit (and pitch). Why adding something else was deemed necessary is beyond me. Oh, and BTW: hitting is supposed to be hard. Hitting a baseball is supposed to be the hardest thing in sports to do. God forbid that should be accurately reproduced....

And if the senior producer of the game truly came up with this, then I'd personally want a new one heading up the direction of this game. While this is a great baseball game (and probably best all-time), I can think of 100 things I'd rather see done to further the reality of this game rather than "beginner's mode". I'm actually saddened that 2K is no longer in the baseball biz. Everything I've read so far about MLB13 says "coasting" to me. With no competition, that's exactly what I'm seeing from early impression about the game so far.

But it's all about what's on the back of the case, a "selling point" for the game sites to talk about...instead of fixing other, much needed gameplay elements.

And that kinda makes me sad. That people in this country don't understand baseball enough to know the basics of the game. That they either aren't being taught those basics, or don't have the smarts to learn them on their own. How hard can it be? This is supposed to be a baseball "sim". And it gives you all you need to learn to hit and pitch. But in this age of youtube and wikipedia, etc they can't be bothered?

Maybe they need to make a "bobblehead baseball superstars" kinda game for the people that can't be bothered to learn how to play the real game?

Could care less about this, but I'm not bothered by it.

I doubt that this is something they really sunk any real effort or resources into.

Although, something tells me if you need a mode like this, the chances of you really enjoying this game in the long run would be slim(though I could be wrong). But still, if this helps SCEA push a few more copies onto the baseball novice masses, more power to 'em.

Baseball is not one of the most popular games for kids. I understand why the developers are trying to make the game accessable to all, think about the 5 year old that does not understand the intricacies of baseball. After trying the game they may get bored or frustrated and never purchase the game again.

By having this it allows the game to push more units and keep baseball gaming for all of us. This will not affect how the ones on OS play the game in any way.

If SCEA is programming this game to cater to 5 year olds, then friggin help us all.
