Say what you will about the player movement in 2k11, but what made the control feel good was consistency. There was less variety to the animations, so you always knew how your player would move...it was simpler and a thus bit easier to grasp.

anyway, i don't necessarily think their control philosophy is a bad thing, but it's going to take some getting used to. as gamers we've been trained that when you do specific motion on your controller, you get a specific movement from the character. we have been trained that every time you do that motion, you will get the same exact animation...now I feel like my player kind of has a mind of his own. i still need to adjust.
This is a good piece and taking this into mind I felt a little better in my last demo game.

I tried less pushing my guy where I wanted and instead following his momentum and I saw some really nice things under the basket or while driving to the basket.

Another thing that the change in control layout has done is mistakenly help me make better moves while driving before attempting a layup. I find myself wanting to hit the shot stick to shoot and instead finding a way around a close defender before I hit L2 to finish the play.

I'm still adjusting. I still don't really like that I don't feel I have as much control of what a guy does when I push him forward, but I'll see.

It's possible I may just need to wait a bit and get the urge when everyone else is talking about the game.

Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here

Finally got my hands on this.

Beau-ti-ful!

It's mad smoove! I couldn't dribble to save my life first 3 games but I picked it up.

PNR's are good, seems like for us sim ballers who actually call plays, when we want to freelance it's going to be a bit easier.. Remember last year when you bought the ball up the court without calling a play, you seen minimal movement and basically had to iso? Not this year. Defense is there this year finally we have the tools to counter on the perimeter. Post defense still needs works tho, but it is decent.

I like the new dribble controls. Why would I switch back? It's like taking a stepback. Also it's a challenge to learn a whole new control system, plus it's combined with the shot stick dopeeeee. You really have to follow momentum of your player. If you have no idea how to string together moves in real life, or how to string together moves in 2K12 you're going to have a difficult time. Because of the momentum you have to dribble the ball with realistic chain moves.

Finally seen the menus live in person. Is it NBA like? No. But I don't see a problem, it's different. But next year they should definitely keep the TV broadcast theme. Why can't they get NBA TV?

I also love the contact in the paint. As people mentioned above the main problem is on the PnR when you have the roll man catch the ball he stops his momentum towards the basket and gives the defense time to recover. Other then that no major problems I see.

It's just killing me that I can't call plays yet. But thanks to the improved free lance I'm seeing little brush screens and pin downs.

I rejoice that after like 12 playthroughs I held an opponent under 10 points against the CPU. I know it is 5 minute quarters but my CPU teammates keep leaving people wide open for layups and 3's....and the CPU opponent almost NEVER misses.

I like the game though, hope every game is not so high scoring though. I know OKC and Miami are two of the best three teams on the game so I'm sure every game won't be the same against different opponents.

yeah, it seems like there is an "automatic" feeling to the control. i kind of notice it on drives to the hoop - when you have a lane to the hoop and start to drive through it, you can feel your player automatically speed up and get sucked through the open lane. so rather than you making him speed up and drive, the game kind of pulls him in that direction for you...it's a bit weird, and i'd rather do it myself, but once you see it enough times, you start to anticipate these "automatic" moments and they aren't so jarring.

One of the best demos I've played. Paying off my copy tomorrow.

Yea, I've noticed 2K13 "guides" you through openings and has your player make the right moves on the drive to slip by defenders rather than 2K12, where you hit a brick wall and go into a jump shot animation whenever you make partial contact. I think I like it better especially with good scorers on the break.

I was also able to split the defenders with Lebron once driving from the perimeter using the LS in conjunction with the RS. Don't know how I did it exactly but it was nice. You would never have seen that in 2K11 or 12.

I haven't played any games online since I am just trying to get a grip on the controls offline. I imagine that stuff won't go on with most people here since everyone tries to play as realistic as possible. I have a hard enough time doing basic stuff so I don't mes around with all the fancy skill moves and such.
