Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here

Finally got to use the Heat, LeBron is a monster on the break. You've got to be real smart playing the Heat (I never experienced this as a Thunder player, in general the Thunder seem easier to use) but LeBron will just ROCKET out into open space. Got two breakway dunks with him after having not dunked in nearly 10 games as the Thunder so far, let alone having a fast break.

My main thing so far is that I still end up spinning when I didn't intend to, or forgetting to hold L2 when kicking out for an open three, but I can tell I'll get the hang of it. I love the way this game moves otherwise, something about it feels a lot more solid and less floaty than any previous 2K.

Sorry but how is this a good thing? I simply hate animations that aren't triggered by user input.

Honestly I just don't see the reason to going back to the old control scheme! This was real easy to learn on the first try.... Now I am just spending time to learn the dribbling moves and once the actually game comes out I will experiment more with the shot moves..... I just love the fact that the players are playing a lot more like themselves!!!

Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here

Just finished 3 games with the PS3 version and I was right about the control part the players on defense feels less momentum heavy to me and I'm able to keep up with the guy in front of me...

Another thing I learned was that you gotta lay off the L stick if you are doing moves with the Right....since the L stick is also dribbling moves its kinda counter productive....I couldn't figure out why I felt that I had no control and it turns out it's because of the L stick.

I'm getting the hang of it

Well guys with deadeye willl shoot right through that with no % deduction if your not close enough, but others may be bothered. You can also contest with a Y jump it just gives you a easier way to defend other than great shooters

A few things:

Is it just me or is Durant unusually slow? Even his turbo run it seems like he's jogging.

Way too many dunks, hopefully that will change during a real simulation game.

Spacing is good, teammates tend to try and get out of your way when you're taking your man 1 on 1. Sometimes they get stuck in the area but they try to give you space.

Defense is still hard for me, any tips? Durant and Westbrook has a counter for EVERYTHING. I understand they're tremendous players but every time?

Why is Shane Battier starting at the 4? W.E.

Fake pass looks like a fake shot, I don't like it.

Don't understand why we never got a developer insight for play running, one of the most important factors of basketball. I have a feeling play running in 2K13 will be atrocious.

Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here

Played the 2k13 demo for PS3, it looks like 2k is still keen on taking control away from you.

When I am playing defense, I do not have full control of my player. If the offensive player initiates a crossover move, the game will force me into a reactionary move that I can't break out of.

- For instance, I was playing defense on Lebron and he did a crossover move, the game then forced me into a "crossed up" animation and he drove right past me.

This doesn't make any sense. I am a user controlled player, not the computer. The only way LeBron should be able to drive past me is if I guess wrong on the direction he's going, or if he uses his quick first step to blow by me, if I reach and get out of position. The game shouldn't just decide that 'I am not worthy' to guard him and force me into an unbreakable animation when it so chooses. This is not exclusive to LeBron, it happens with every player.

This also happens in other situations on the court. I'll use Lebron again as an example.

-So I'm playing defense against LeBron and he decides to drive to the basket for a layup. The game then forces me to ride him to the basket. I didn't want to ride him to the basket, here's a few things I could have done but didn't have the chance to because the game forced me to do what it wanted:

-I could have stayed grounded and waited for him to jump to try and get the block
-I could have ran to Battier sitting in the corner for the 3 because I knew I had help in the paint
-I could tried to take the charge

There's a lot more logical things I could do in that situation, but the game has decided it wanted me to ride LeBron to the basket. This is what I mean by taking control away. Forcing me into reactionary type animations.

This is the main reason why I don't play man defense. On the older games like 2k6, they gave you control of your player on offense and on defense. So playing man defense made sense. Everything just feels so sluggish these days.

Please 2k, get rid of these forced animations so the game can be funner. The game speed is already slow as it is and animations have been dreadfully slow since 2k9, forced animations don't help that. I know you're trying to make the game look authentic, but you have to find the right balance between that authentic look and actual gameplay. There has to be another way to make the game look more authentic than just completely taking control away from the user. Forcing users into animations so a crossover or a drive to the basket looks "real life" is not the answer.
