Re: NBA 2K13 Gameplay Video - Los Angeles Lakers vs. Miami Heat

I recently dusted off my copy of 2k12 and started playing again (A. to get back into the 2k groove, and B. because MW3 is just plain boring at this point). And after watching an actual 2k13 gameplay vid of decent quality, it's blatantly obvious how sluggish and downright unresponsive the controls in 2k12 are.

Anyone who's played the game of course, knows that i'm referring to critical gameplay aspects - most notably passing (especially icon), catch and shoot, and always being one step slower on defense. Granted, this video may not be the 100% final build, but from what i saw the responsiveness has definitely been addressed. Passing looked crisp, shooting appeared much more responsive, and to a certain extent, defense even looked better.

On the flip side, there were still some issues i noticed - none of which i'll mention now, as any real 2k fan certainly noticed them already. But again, this likely not being the final build, i won't judge too harshly yet. I was also disappointed to not see a single free throw (or foul call if i'm not mistaken), and to not get a glimpse of J. Shuttlesworth's jumper (it's ridiculously slow in 2k12).

Anyway, long story short, some obvious key improvements have been made. And that's a hell of a good start.

Or, allow Magic blog Pinstriped Post to explain further:

Howard has made strides in several areas, but among the most notable and prevalent is in his jump-shooting. Prior to this season, he had shot 30.6 percent on two-point jumpers. This season, that figure has moved to 39.1 percent.
Specifically, Howard has improved his facility in taking jumpers from the wings after receiving the ball with his back to the basket. In prior years, if a defender managed to leverage him a few steps out from where he'd like to catch, Howard didn't have many options; he could turn, face, and fire an iffy jumper or try to drive a longer to the basket, opening himself up to strips from help defenders. Now? He can turn, face, and fire a markedly more reliable jumper, in addition to driving the lane.
In 74 games, Howard has shot 38-of-92 (41.3 percent) on such attempts. To be clear, we're only talking about a very specific type of jumper here: ones he shoots following a post-up when he faces up.
The improved accuracy is one aspect to note here, but don't ignore his willingness to fire away: he's tied Zach Randolph for the league lead in this sort of jumper attempt this season, at 1.2 per game. Howard, Randolph, Carlos Boozer, and Al Jefferson stand as the only players averaging at least 1 such shot attempt per game. Of those four, only Jefferson (45.3 percent) tops Howard in accuracy.
Nice. But Howard didn't even try to post up.

It's why it's so silly to be intensely judgmental over at 10 minute video. It's only indicative of the final product, it's not nearly enough to give any final idea. Especially when we're not the ones controlling the action.
Well, the CPU was controlling the Lakers, as far as I understand. But you're right, it's only one quarter of gameplay. Hopefully, tendencies will be more true to life out of the box.

Arrrrrrggghhh Look at the Net Animations they're so Stiff and Sticky when the ball goes through ,2k12 and 11 were much better. How can you fully enjoy kobe's new jumpshot or anyone else's when the net animations are lacking.

go to 3:14 wade's shot and there are many others.

2k get on it. The ball looks way better and sounds good but those old 2K10 net physics got to go

I shoot a lot of jumpers when i play so I know thoses animations are just wrong for this awesome game

The depth of this game leads me to believe 2K12 was rushed so they could take extra time to make 2K13 really special. Just a theory but if that's really what they did then I gotta say, it was worth it.

Liked the fact Kobe missed that dunk , a little worried that Kobe might be a little too good in the game though .

Well, he really is that damn good. Streaky shooting or not.

The animations and fluidity are really impressive in this game so far.
