So what's stopping 2K from introducing a "Chasedown Block" rating?

Again:

There's nothing ratings can't do that "Signature Skills" hopes to accomplish.

Exactly, or Brick Wall is another example of a signature skill that can't be recreated by ratings. People really need to give this a chance before they continue to complain. The only issue we have to worry about is gameplay balance. I'm sure 2K has that thought as well.

Looking at who the skill was given to, what else could it mean? Especially if there is already a Posterizer skill.

I see your point, but why have detailed ratings for some things like "chase down block". Either a player is a specialist at it or not.

Isn't that more or less what "Abilities" were for? I don't see why Chasedown couldn't be broken down into "Poor, Average, Good, Great."

I have a feeling the "Ankle Breaker" skill is combined with a signature dribbling package for that specific player.

Now, if it lets us choose the dribbling packages associated with that....

Same goes for the Acrobat skill and if that ties into specific layup packages or just specific animations....

Edit: Hopefully the role players have more defensive skills than offensive skills.

It could have been. But most of the league would be poor/average while a few exceptions would be good/great. All 2k did was use your logic, but used 2 values instead of 4. It works the same way. I look at it like this:

low block rating x no sig skill = poor chase down block
high block rating x no sig skill = average chase down block
low block rating x sig skill = good chase down block
high block skill x sig skill = great chase down block

If sig skills and player specific animations are tied into each other, we could some sweet looking visuals.

Michael Jordan's specific AIR JORDAN acrobat layups or Shawn Kemp's specific POSTERIZER dunks.

That's a fair enough point. This could work with things like Brick Wall and maybe Acrobat, since, as you said, it's such a rare trait. What worries me are things like Closer and Finisher. It seems like a waste, when we already had ratings pertaining to those things.
