I agree, and to their credit, they tried to work on areas that 2k had issues in (passing, online, and something else but I forget what exactly they said). Realistically, the only thing Live potentially has over 2k is Online due to EAs servers.

Really Live 10 had the foundation to do just what you said, but the big wigs didnt like the overall numbers and decided there needed to be a drastic change (Elite....)

I still cannot see how they can charge $20 for a glorified demo, even if it is for consumer feedback (Isnt that what the Gamechangers program is for?). Even if someone prefers Live's controls, I just dont see how it can make much of a difference if the core game plays nothing like the sport it is trying to replicate.

Live 13 being a digital release only at this time is just speculation until official EA annoucement. They are still working on the game as we speak and their minds can easily change and release in stores at any time.
Maybe, but its seriously doubtful. The writing on the wall about this being a downloadable game has been there all summer. Plus, we are one month away from the supposed release date. They dont really have much flex room anymore for deciding on whether this is going to stores or going to be digital only.

Re: NBA Live 13 a $20 Digital Release This October?

I'm reading way too many posts saying that EA can make a profit by selling LIVE for $20.
You can't make profit if your sales numbers don't surpass your development and production costs.
You can't make profit with this title when you haven't released a NBA LIVE/ELITE product since the Fall of 2009.
You can't make profit when money has been trickling away due to firings, hiring, reshuffling of development teams, and paying for licensing when a product was not released.
This release would have to surpass industry record numbers for them to make profit. Halo, COD, GTA numbers, come on people.
The price point is not a way to make money. It's a means of salvaging an underwhelming product.

So instead of spend 60$ i could spend and hour's worth of a paycheck and get live with updated rosters, online, a franchise mode, acceptable presentation, great crowd atmosphere and a since its not polished enough to be a full sim arcade mixed in with sim for and enjoyable experience

its a game the point is to have fun so if you can have fun for a lower cost than its even better.
So then keep playing Live 10. Go rebuy Live 10. Everything you mentioned having, you can get in Live 10. If it's about value, which I doubt, then Live 10 will cost you $9.99 for the PS3 and $14.99 on the 360 at Gamestop right now. Instead you're in here talking up Live 13 as this great value for 20 bucks for stuff you don't even know you're going to get? NCAA 10 was a full fledged, advertised disc release that didn't get any support for anything and we're in here talking about how this digital download IS going to be all this stuff. I'd wait for the reviews on this one.

and then i go back to the fact that to me they were trying to compete with 2k this because they only had 8 months to work on the game. so they build of the positives they have this year. atmosphere, presentation and go forward and we will see what happens next year but until then . i see no problem with buy a roster update with good aspects for 20$.
Why do you keep saying they ONLY had so much time to work on this title. They had a FULL DEVELOPMENT CYCLE. They may not have used the full two years after Elite that they could have and should have used, but they definitely had a full, normal development cycle. At the least they had nine months and not eight.

Yep, you definitely know me and my history with EA. Got me.

They CAN hire the talent, we saw that with Mike Wang and Marcus. The problem is the guys up top don't give two drops of piss about a quality, true representation of basketball as opposed to the correct numbers. See Live 10 and the decision to change direction and piss off the best guy in the basketball gaming biz

guys, the game DIDN't TAKE 3 YEARS TO MAKE. That's the real problem. they were only developing this for a year smh. they are idiots and do not take their product seriously. what does Ea care though when they seem to have settled for Madden and FIFA smh

This is one of the biggest issues I have with the whole Live fiasco. Even if Elite was garbage, build off of and improve that engine since they had ambitious goals. 3 years should be more than enough time to make a playable and decent basketball game...I mean if EAs intentions were to start fresh, MAKE IT WORK!

Re: NBA Live 13 a $20 Digital Release This October?

this would explain the lack of advertising. it seems a $20 downloadable release isn't capable of recouping the ad budget of previous titles; cuts were made to compensate, hence the perceived secrecy. my guess is, they can't pay as much for cover athletes either, which would explain the hold up there.

i was hoping i'd have a choice this year, looks like EA made up my mind for me...2K FTW!
