After reading the article they at Kotaku sounds like they still have the blacktop mode with 3pt/dunk contest and that dunk contest will play similar to previous versions...

The Guitar Hero Dunk Contest wouldn't be half bad if the key presses corresponded to actual animations and actions as they were occurring, with certain buttons assigned to each dribble and stride. The fact that the game essentially pauses before the dunk and then requires you to punch in an arbitrary sequence of buttons before the dunk resumes completely takes you out of the game and undermines any illusion that you're performing the dunk yourself.

The old dunk contest from 2k10 or was it 8 or 9 was actually better.

Even breaking up the dunk sequence with pauses at key moments that require short sequences would be more engaging than one long one before the dunk completes.

Even guitar hero has button presses correspond to audio or visuals happening on screen.

In the interview I forgot his name, the guy from 2k lol said they want to make the dunk contest a pick up and play. So they are going with the causal approach, so when you have your buddies over and don't feel like playing a game, you can just play the dunk contest without real skill. I have no problem with that. Its not a real game, its a game mode. I personally didn't like the old dunk contest buttons. That's why I rarely played it.

I couldn't do the old dunk contest either - think I may have been able to complete 2 dunks total over the years and still wasn't sure how I did it so I rarely played it. But did respect that it was skills/timing based, just difficult to pick up. I don't mind them putting in controls to make it easier, just would be nice if they can manage to retain the skills-based controls of the past. Unlikely if they redid the entire mode, but would be nice

well its not a breaker for me if the controls comes in a form of QTE inputs to complete dunks in the dunk contest...it seems as if though Rob Jones is eluding to Blacktop will still be in the final product with the advance controls from the last appearance
