Re: FBGRatings Seeks to Recalibrate Madden Ratings, Change Game

I appreciate your hard work DCEBB and hopefully there are slider sets and ratings edits allowed in Online Franchise in M13 so these can be implemented by Commissioners.

I am tired of reading my post complaining about Madden and if there can just be more ways to improve the experience through community fellowship, that would be enough for me.

Thanks again for the effort and perseverance, no matter how M13 turns out.

DCEBB what you do is awesome. And I have read pretty much all of this thread, but have you played a game with these ratings to see if it actually brings better gameplay or is the purpose of the rating changes just for realistic and hard data driven games?

Do you understand what I am attempting to ask?

From the OP of this thread;
"Dan claims that when these numbers are plugged into the game, it plays much better and much closer to real life. Check out the interview below and also check out Dan's website to see what he's got going on!"

Also, the interview is a really good listen and it articulates why I have so much respect and appreciation for what DECBB is doing.

Re: FBGRatings Seeks to Recalibrate Madden Ratings, Change Game

That was almost 2 Maddens ago at this point (since none of this data was ready for 12, was there even a set of data available for 11?), I'm not sure how you can say ratings will always have the same effect game after game, as their value is tweaked to get the desired results or in the case of last year the ratings expanded and formulas reworked. I expect we'll see more of that this year because of all the defensive changes.

More than anything this is creating Madden-like ratings from scouting data, how it plays in the game more realistically is open for debate and the capabilities of the game and how it interprets those ratings.

I think I understand what you are getting at but unless EA/Tiburon's formula has changed for how ratings tie in with the game, what DCEBB is stating should still apply. Meaning that if in M11 or whenever he plugged in more realistic data driven ratings, the game played much better and closer to real life, that should still apply unless Madden 13 ratings are totally different.

Some where in this thread, I believe DECBB mentioned running it to a similar situation last year or the year before, that delayed his progress. So it seems to me, he's ratings are likely to scale according to how Madden's ratings a configured. Any adjustments would have to be made if Madden 13 ratings are somehow changed.

I hope what all that made sense and was relevant to what you were talking about. lol

Yeah we are talking about the same thing, the question I would ask then is how many sliders are the same year to year?

Player ratings are intended to achieve a level of performance in the engine, as that changes (and it had a bit the last few years, with things like locomotion) and those ratings stay the same I don't see how they would remain accurate.

What this effort is doing is mapping scouting and other data to a scale similar to Madden, how it actually plays remains to be seen I think.

Everything I do is based on 2 things.

Real life NFL scouting data and in-game performance. There are several instances in this thread (and others) where individuals have given testimony to how the ratings work in game. Sliders, however, are very important and they vary individual to individual. All I can say, is that when I use them, they seem to work well. There are a few others who have written emails to me stating the same thing. Try searching this thread again for some testimony.

The thing that always held me back was the fact that EA keeps changing the OVR calculation formulas. However, the attributes have not changed. Why? Because they are derived purely on data and statistical analysis. The point of FBG ratings is not to affect the gameplay directly, but to be able to analyze how players differ from one to another. The data is used to differentiate between PLAYERS. Players...not plays.
