Are Arcade Sports Games Really Worth $60?

FIFA Street
wasn’t a bad game by any means, but a fair amount of reviews, including one from yours truly, suggested that the game may be better suited as a cheaper release as opposed to a full priced one. The game did receive a price drop, but the surprising thing was how quickly one came — in less than a week.

One couldn't help but ask: Perhaps the game was overpriced to begin with?

I agree it does not make sense to pay $60 bucks for an arcade style sports game. They usually get stale quicker and lack a lot of substance the simulation variety of sports games offer. Though I think the developers need to start looking at their games and saying is this really worth $60 dollars? Will we get more sales from a game that is a little cheaper, which people are willing to buy since the price starts to get closer to the impulse buy. This of course is intended for all genres not just sports.

I think Blitz hit the nail on the head releasing on XBLA/PSN at $15 bucks. At $40 or $60 dollars I would not have touched it, but at $15 I was willing to try it out and had a blast with it. No, it does not keep me coming back like NCAA Football does, but for $15 dollars that is okay because I received my moneys worth.

Think of NBA Jam. Mediocre game at $60 (Fun, but lacked substance), then they turned it into a fantastic XBLA game.

If you the buyer get many hours of enjoyment out of it, then it is worth it. If you don't enjoy it, it's not.

That's probably the best example of this.

I agree. Any sports videogame without franchise mode is one that will find its way back onto my shelf quickly and start gathering dust. The sports videogame landscape has moved beyond arcade as a full version. My favorite example of this was All-Pro Football 2k8 - great game, but no franchise mode. I played it for a bit, then got bored and went back to a game with franchise. I would never pay full price for a sports game with no franchise mode these days.

I agree. Those games should be much cheaper.
