And now with their emphasis on short branching animations I think as guys who play these games we are stuck with what we have. The way they do mo-cap also plays a role into how some of this stuff looks. The decisions that have been made are playing a big role in what we see now.

What if the actual fact is that they are willing and not capable? I'm not going to say either way, but I think the question has to be entertained. People always say, well they are just not trying. If they had competition this game would be x, y and z. I used to say that stuff too, but now, I am starting to entertain the other position. What if having competition is not going to mean a hill of beans and the game that you get from them now would actually be the game you get even if they had competition. The decisions they made with tech and what to do with it are the decisions they made. Competition would probably not change that.

We are talking about almost a ten year gap. 2k's run blocking in 2k4 onward. When did EA touch run blocking? 2 years ago? The competition was GONE already. They could not touch the competition so they got rid of it to try to "catch up." And their catch ups are showing the limitations of the technology they are using. When it comes to capability it is a two way street, it is the people and it is the tech. The tech is limited, and it may be that they do not know how to manipulate the tech to do something different.

I do not believe for one minute that the game would be any better than it is right now with the big ticket items like animations and play system. These are not things that you can change over night and once you make a decision way back when, you gotta live with it until you are able to start over from scratch. EA made a decision with Madden 09 to go with short branch out animations. Now they cannot change that and the game will always suffer from that decision until they can start over. The OL will probably always be Man on Man pass blocking unless they can some how manipulate animations and develop sophisticated enough code to deal with combo pass blocking which was done six years ago now by the competition.

I just don't see it. When the competition was around they did nothing to match them on the big ticket items and now I'm supposed to believe that if they have competition they would do a better job on those things?

Anyways, I don't want to side track. I apologize for getting the thread off course.

The one thing I will say is that I will no longer put the blame on EA. I have to be smarter with my money. Bottom line. It's not like I don't know what I'm going to be getting before I purchase it. That's why this year has to be different for me as a consumer. New passing game, great, but if I value OL vs DL interaction and value combo pass blocking higher than any corrections they have made, I gotta be smart and say no matter how good it looks, I'm opting out. Otherwise the only person I can be mad with is me. I knew what I was walking into and did it anyway.
I'm going to quote all of LB's posts, because he's bringing the goods in each of them.

The overwhelming majority of us know what the fundamental weaknesses are when it comes to Team Tiburon. If it makes people feel better to regurgitate the same old rants about animations, competition, same game, etc., well then have at it, I guess. It just seems so quixotic.

People need to make peace with the mediocre to crappy parts of Tiburon's football games, or give up on playing any new football video game for the foreseeable future.

My gut tells me that the next gen of EA Sports football titles are going to animate very similarly to this generations games. I don't think that they're going to start over from scratch, so if they're using much of the same coding, people shouldn't expect a radical change to the core gameplay in their football games.

I know that folks don't want to hear that, but they should prepare for that probability.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

how about the o-line d-line interactions get fixed, how about you put some authentic gang tackles, 3rd guy just kinda falls over. no psycic dbs has been said for years....prove it. im tired of paying 60bones for new jerseys and rosters. how about improving the stuff that matters. presentation is horrible. sidelines are horrible. ball flight we'll see. but i really think you guys need to use fifas physics engine. lose the animations and make natural flowing game. why have i never seen a guy pulled downby his jersey? happens all the time. you guys are the Wal mart of the game developers. got a choke hold on the leagues so you dont have competition, well i have news for you EA competition breeds greatness. #2ksportsstandup

Unfortunately, the more I look at the passing play concerning FSU at UF, that DB interaction made no sense at all. Additionally, the 4 foot juke (impossible) that the Oklahoma running back made can only be compared to being punched in the stomach by surprise. (painful to watch)

Please EA, please EA don't let us down on the 17th...

SMH...but I know you already have...

Sage, any other year in the past, I would agree with you, but somewhere in my gut, I think this year is different, I hope.

In the past, I don't think there was a manager of both games who was a former CFL QB and Div 2 college QB with a pedigree from FIFA and Fight Nights. First thing he did was look at all the forums and saw the passion of the football gamers. One of the first things he did was double both game play teams. That doesn't guarantee the game will be better, but I can't think these changes are for the worse and instead, possibly a step in the right direction.

The physics and the animations are terrible, but 2k hoops still has warping and sliding issues, and yet, that game has good to great game play. Not saying 2k has similar issues to the football games, but they still have them.

Just some thoughts.

I'm encouraged by the attempt to address the psychic DBs, the rollouts, screens, drop backs, 25 different trajectories, and the icons appearing when the receiver is open. Let's see how it all turns out to be sure before we spend our money.

I was really only joking with that comment, but I respect your opinion on here roadman, you know that, so I hope you're right. I have the pass so I will be trying out this game, as well as the demo, but I just don't have much excitement after seeing the video. Still waiting on the 17th, but there's only so much I can take with some of the decisions made with this series. It's to the point where some of the little things not fixed bother me more than the big things.

I still think the game will be fun as always for a few weeks, but I don't have hope with the longevity of either of these football games anymore. I always hope I'm wrong, but so far I haven't been. I did enjoy NCAA 11 though, still my fav version this gen.
