From my perspective, I would say your first post was a little personal. I would be offended, but I don't know your guys' relationship so I may be off base. I know your say goes and not trying to disrespect, just offering some perspective (granted I didn't see the posts that got him banned).

These are my feelings exactly. I think the GOTY concept is actually a great idea. I am completely 100% for 2K trying to gain profits and find a way to spark the interest of the casual sports gamer.

I just think they could have done it in a way that didn't involve giving something for free that others paid ten dollars for only 2 months ago.

Maybe a new cover design, or even just the poster would have done the trick. Maybe even having like 100 of the actually signed by MJ, Bird, or Magic and having them randomly in games (I realize that might not be possible).

Just some kind of idea that would increase profits and not have the consumers that already bought the product feel slighted, in my perspective, would have been their best move.

Are you serious? I'll side with you for a second and say this was a bad move. How is that not EQUALLY a poor decision?

Sell a game at a point where baseball is in full swing and the football releases are right around the corner.

You asked if this has been done and I pointed to LBP. Sports titles drop in price quite often a few months after release - I believe EA did the same exact thing shortly after NBA Jam was released - people bought the disc version and they announced a new version, CHEAPER, with updated rosters for release on XBL.

Not sure if this will make any of you guys feel better, but despite getting more for less, anyone who waited this long to get the game, probably won't get near the enjoyment you did. People that waited this long are not hardcore NBA video game fans. And I would bet that most people that will take advantage of this deal will dabble for a little while and then move on to another game.

To try to put a number on it, I would guess that anyone who bought the game at release and got the DLC has logged at least 150 hours of gamplay....so 50 cents an hour? I bet that anyone getting this deal won't even make it to 50 hours.....so more than $1 per hour. So still a much better "value" for the release day crowd.

How is what not an equally poor decision? Releasing a GOTY sports game? When has that ever been done before? The YEAR isn't even halfway done yet and they are releasing a GOTY version? What?

And LBP GOTY came out one year (almost to the date) after LBP. It included DLC costumes that cost $4, for free, and other levels created by LBP users. It didn't include a totally new mode and the ability to do things that should have been in the original game, like this DLC is. MK (the other you mentioned) came out 10 months ago and the GOTY is still not out yet, and is just a rumor.

NBA 2k12 was released October 2011, the season is still going on, and this is being released 5 months later, with DLC for free that was released what, 3 months prior? It's sold 4 million units, NBA 2k11 has sold 5.5m I believe. I think this is a drastic move to make that also alienates loyal customers. I think they could make up 1.5m in sales by the end of the season without also providing the DLC for free. My only problem is with what seems like unfairness regarding DLC. I know there's nothing I can do about it. I know it probably happened in other genres but I don't think it has ever happened in sports and I don't want it to happen. This is how it starts, and I don't want to see how it ends.

I guess, in all honesty, my beef is with this new "preorder here and get this special stuff that all other users will never be able to even pay for" concept that is overtaking videogames. I just don't understand why nowadays we, as customers, can't get the FULL version of a game anymore without having to pay $40 extra.

That's pretty much what this is, it's not even a 2k thing. You guys could have used that point to get me to shut up but I guess no one even realized it was best buy only.

What you proposed is they sell it, end of the season, when people aren't buying basketball games. This genre is seasonal. You're saying they should not provide an incentive on a title that has seemingly dropped off in sales and somehow expect fans of this series to have waited the entire season to buy the product?

I expected as much about LBP and MK. You're asking for examples in a genre that moves faster than any other. What about NBA Jam?

Companies do this often - the cell phone marketplace is another example.

I'm not happy about it. I didn't even buy the DLC because I didn't think it held the value it was being sold as having. But this is where the sports genre will be moving to, one way or another. These companies need to milk as much as they can from a license that only holds limited value every single year.

That's just the reality of the situation, personal feelings aside. EDIT - Best Buy only or not - your points still stand. It's being offered and you can still get it.
