Then you say your expectations are (were) zero. To me it seems like a contradiction; like you want to have it both ways. It seems to be a way for you to continue to feel slighted, to continue to complain. Which is your right. I agree, while they have had *some* art updates, the expected hair/tattoo/whatever updates haven't come and they haven't given an eta on when they may come. If they ever do come. It's disappointing. But ultimately, me not seeing somebody rocking a mohawk isn't lessening my enjoyment of the game. The online franchise website not being up doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the game. The lack of cpu double teams doesn't ruin my enjoyment. Or any of the other issues.

2K12 isn't perfect and I accept it for what it is. I'd say the same about 2K11 or 2K10 before it. These comparisons to what people are doing on the PC version don't mean much to me - EVERY year PC people brag about what's accomplished on that platform versus the console versions, and that rings true across pretty much any game that has a console version & PC counterpart. Perhaps the updates to the console version haven't been as large as some of you would like. But I don't think it means the console version is crap, or that 2K's efforts to improve/tweak are crap. I look at this situation knowing it wasn't a normal year with the two month lockout likely affecting how the game was supported. I know there's a lot of focus on what they did wrong, but precious little on what they did right (like getting the NBA's new abbreviated schedule to work with NBA Today). Either way, I don't see it being the piss-poor effort some try to make it out to be.

Re: NBA 2k12 Game of the Year Edition

Absolutely shameful. 2K is milking its product with no respect for the consumer. They're basically turning the franchise into the Call of Duty franchise. Churning out yearly iterations with little to no competition, and then extorting the gamers who have little to no alternatives in the genre.

I've never wanted EA to step their game up more than right now. God, I hope Elite 13 is good.

Here's an idea, 2K.

On March 11, do your re-release for $49.99. Also, on March 11, announce that the Legends DLC will be free for anyone who buys or already has the game. Problem solved.

PR Guy raises expectations = general statement.

My expectations being zero = personal statement.

There's a difference.

If a politician says "we will be announcing massive tax cuts tomorrow"....and I am politically cynical and don't believe it... it doesn't mean that I can't see how that announcement won't lead some people to believe they'll be getting tax cuts.

Side note: You should be doing Ronnie2K's job...I am serious

BTW I never called 2K's efforts "piss poor". I called them "half hearted" and "weak". IMO they have been half hearted. No one can say the promised art updates have been anything other than tokenary at this point. Most people seem to feel that way. (You and Pared aside)

I'd like to hear Spank and Pared's thought on this..........pre release hype basically was "we can do art updates now via rosters, you'll see players change as they do, new tatts, hair cuts, beards etc".....post release, five month later...one single player has been updated. One. Kendrick Perkins body shape was changed. That's it.

That's just cold hard facts. If that's "enough" for Spank and Pared...that one. single. change. then that's cool.

I am sure most other people probably think it's not enough though. We then get labled "complainers"

It seems to me anyway that "expectations" pre release were that more than one players body weight being changed would be done.

Will the game of the year edition be packed in with the mlb 2k12 game or is it the vanilla version?

This is getting away from the thread topic and the last comment I'll make on the subject. As I said, I look at the situation with the understanding that the lockout likely affected what 2K intended to do. Also, I'm not aware of other sports games doing art updates in season. So while I'm disappointed that there have only been a few things that have been updated to date, ultimately somebody having dreads in game when they no longer wear them in real life isn't that big a deal to me to be honest. Or someone missing a new tattoo when most other sports games don't even have individual tattoos at all.

But it depends on the individual. For example it irritates me more to see teams not having the correct color socks/shoe combination. I'm like that in all sports games; used to hate seeing the many of the Steelers with black shoes in NFL2K5. So if the hair/tattoo updates are a big deal to you, then I respect that. The only thing I'd say is art updates aren't a common feature within sports games, so I think that should be taken into account (including the lockout) when judging 2K's efforts on that aspect of the game.

Re: 2K Sports Announces NBA 2K12: Game of the Year Edition

I have defended 2k before and I probably will still do that but this right here is just a bulls*** move by them.

We bought the game at day 1 and supported them all through out regardless of how bad the gameplay issues are. I can say with great confidence that I speak for most of the people here when I say that we really feel alienated by 2k.

They made a decision to make a goty edition that has all of the dlcs and functionalities like editing the legends team which should have been there from the start.

I'm not saying this is illegal but all I am saying is that I never expected 2k would do this to their core fans ever. Well 2k proved us wrong again...

I can't help but think this game is held to a standard other sports games aren't held to. I don't think people ran out and purchased the game because they wanted to support 2K. I'm sure a small aspect of that is true, yes. Imo people ran out and purchased the game because (1) they were impressed with the demo (2) liked the pre-release info (3) liked a previous version of the game (4) wanted to play an NBA game. If the game had a known issue at release where it would never go past halftime, or some other issue that rendered the game unplayable (TRULY unplayable, not the "I'm irritated with [this] and so I can't play it") - I seriously doubt most people would run out and buy the game to show "support" for 2K. I think most people would look at the situation from their own self interests. Regarding this year's gameplay issues, I don't find them any more/less frustrating than last year's gameplay issues. But that's me, as someone that played 2K11/plays 2K12 on mostly default sliders. Just explaining that I don't think there were massive amounts of gameplay issues at the game's release.

If the community is representative of 2K's core fans, then it's safe to say many here would dispute 2K's decision to place Legends in the game. There were many threads pre- and post- release of people saying the Legends content was unnecessary, took focus away from the core game, etc. I do think most people appreciate the content being there. Just saying that many here, the supposed core fans, would argue against it. The job that 2K did putting together complete teams is something no other sports game has attempted to do, at least on this level. And they nailed most of the signature styles; I'm in Practice mode now marvelling at the job they did with afro-Kobe. These are features/details most other sports games don't even attempt, and yet it's part of the core game. I'd think in most other games this would be offered as straight DLC. Yet 2K's getting faulted for not including the ability to allow editing of the Legend teams, because the view from some is it should've been there from the start. Perhaps I'm looking at the situation from the wrong perspective, but I don't know that people can expect 2K to continue to offer the amount of content they do without trying to get *something* in return, on some level - given what other developers are doing. Or simply keep giving away content when many peer games are doing less, charging for whatever's deemed extra, and aren't getting berated by it's fans for the effort. I don't know The Show very well, but I think I've read they offer legend stadiums as DLC (not sure about teams). People say EA's Ultimate Team DLC is wildly successful. What 2K did with this DLC doesn't seem overly obtrusive.

The DLC is ten dollars. Which would seem to be on the low end of DLC offerings from other games. I get the feeling that the only thing that people might've accepted as 2K making DLC is Blacktop mode. And even then that might not fly, as we can pull up the thread that announced the DLC and you'd read many comments saying "I shouldn't have to pay for what I got for free previously". To me this is a bit like expecting the corner gas station to be a 50's full service throwback, when all the other gas stations around it have gone to self-serve. Again, perhaps I'm looking at this from the wrong perspective which is why I don't post much anymore. But on the surface it would seem this game is held to a standard others aren't (then again, I've been saying that for years)
