It has to do with the animation as his arm is about to go forward. You'll see in the picture I'm posting that as that happens, his arm is whiplashing so hard that even though the momentum has started going forward, his forearm is still almost parallel to the ground in the opposite direction:



In previous years, this animation was not there (for all pitchers, not just CC), and was a big part of the reason it never felt like the ball was truly being slung/snapped towards home plate. People have been asking for this extension of the pitching animation for quite a while, and it's great to see that it finally made it in.

Every pitcher from teenagers through major leaguers have that same arm flex. It's not something you notice unless you see a still shot of it but all pitchers have that.

It's not anatomically healthy, as you can imagine by looking at the picture.

If you were to take someone who never played baseball and put their arm in the upward "L" position and tried to rotate their hand back you would get little movement and a lot of resistence. Now, try this on someone who played baseball (especially current or former pitchers) and you're going to see a lot of movement.

Every single orthopaedist will tell you that throwing a baseball is the most anti-physiological movement the human body can perform. No wonder there are so many injuries, some of them career-ending. Pitchers basically use the same movement while throwing. Only the wind up may vary from pitcher to pitcher. I think the Show has succeeded to be as close to reality as could be in the pitchers' deliveries. Let's not be too picky and enjoy this remarkable game.

Beautiful trailer.. besides David Wright striking out.. and could any of you tell who that mets player was at the end in the last part of the trailer? it looks like number 5 or 2.. and Wright doesn't have a leg kick, so I'm thinking its Justin Turner.. but i can't really tell.
