On the flip side, the PS3 splits the RAM. While both systems offer 512MB of total RAM, the PS3's RAM is dedicated and split. 256MB for system, 256MB for video. The 360's is shared. Meaning if the system only need 100MB, that leaves 412MB of RAM for video. To contrast, the PS3 is limited to 256MB of RAM for video regardless.

THIS is the important aspect. Everything you see during a game is loaded into RAM. So even though the PS3 can offer more disc space, the system cannot load as much as the 360 into RAM. Less system RAM means lower quality textures.
So all they would need is an upgraded RAM..interesting.
Maybe thats the next gen OR THIS GEN.

70MB of additional RAM unlocked for PS3 developers

So whats the limitations the developers have?
They need more storage for more improved A.I., better animations, etc. etc. Blu-Ray can hold all of this.
The visuals will benefit from the additional RAM but what about the major improvments we are searching for. Heres a quote from the article: "Generally it probably won't change design, but might allow extra effects resolution or dynamic lights or something. Probably more beneficial from the systems and art side then from design/gameplay."

Here's a good old video of what EA was touting "Next Gen", on what is now, this gen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...ajPL3Kna4&NR=1

Man, that article about the RAM is almost TWO years old. Who is to say they aren't using that already?

They are...if so is the PS3 still only using the 256mb you mentioned? Who's really posting old specs?

The extra 70MB were gained by reducing how big the OS is. So less of it is loading into RAM. They didn't increase the actual hardware capacity. So it's still 256MB/256MB. And that 70MB was saved on the system RAM side of things. That doesn't help video RAM at all.

Edit: That means that for Madden 11 and 12, this change was already present and the developers were aware of it.

So, essentially they didn't need to change the hardware to improve the RAM for video/visuals, lighting, etc.

So what does the "bottle neck" limit devos. have mean to you? They mentioned this in the Grantland thread.
Now since we've determined its not a RAM concern for improved gameplay, a.i. mechanics, etc. Thank you
