umm... sorry if i sound stupid, but there is double teaming. whenever i have a problem with a player, i go to the defensive settings and set double teams in the post or on ball, etc. What's wrong with doing this? or are people just lazy...

They're talking about the cpu not doubling down on your players when they should.

That you. A user. Not the cpu.
The issue is the CPU NEVER doubles the post or iso's.
Go on. go and test it. Play as the Magic or any team with a dominant post scorer and repeatedly use him. The CPU will never double you.

Of course you can double. you are a user.

Played a another game with default rosters and pro-sim.

A bit better. Less cheesetastic and I make shots with more regularity. I even won against my nemesis Spurs without too much trouble. I'm afraid I'm going to run into Mos1ted's problem of eventually getting too good for Pro and finding All-Star too frustrating.

CPU still hits contested (right stick) D-'s and F midranges and 3's at the end of the shot clock. Saw about 3 of these in two 20 minute games. Probably 1/3 or 1/2 of long range end of clock situations. Pretty ridiculous. I'm wondering if the right stick even works after the patch. Maybe it's only good for inside shots. Still, an F is an F. Meanwhile I clank A+ shots about 1/3 or 1/2 the time. Steph Curry, most efficient shooter in the NBA, badly front-rimmed a wide open mid range rated A+. I feel like I might need to turn off the shot grading display-- because it doesn't really fall in line with expectations, and it makes me feel robbed on both sides of the court. I've also seen where I have a hand up and the CPU gets an A-, and where the CPU is about 2 feet away from my shooter with hands down (man down), and I get rated a D. Grading obviously doesn't mean the same thing for you as it does for the CPU.

An update about my whining regarding unnecessary double clutch layups getting blocked. Apparently I was doing reversals instead of just a layup when driving baseline. I never had this problem last year however, even when doing reversals. This year reversals get blocked, maybe because the animation exposes the ball to the defenders, or because I was activating them in poor situations. You'd think a mostly open drive would be sufficient space to perform a reversal though. At least this should fix one of my frustrations.

I never noticed before, but lack of speed differential is kind of ridiculous. Tim Duncan chased Monta Ellis (one of the fastest guys in the league) all the way up court and got in front to swat him for the layup. What's hilarious is that you can also use this to your advantage. When your centers end up with the ball on an outlet, instead of giving it up to a wing, they can stay just ahead enough of nearby opposing point guards on the fast break. I had Biedrins and Kwame Brown lead the fast break for dunks all the way from half court. Had to laugh when Biedrins pushed it all the way and rammed it down on RJ.

Fast break passing *seems* to have improved though. I haven't had one of those silly 2-on-1-leading-to-a-steal situations in awhile, and I'm even seeing appropriate bounce passes. Not sure if it's because I haven't gotten in the same fast break situations as before, but it seems improved.

Whilst I appreciate your passing on the comments Dzar, there's absolutely no way the 2K team didn't already know this. It's obviously a code problem they can't fix or else they would have done so already.

It's basically meant I can't use a team with a star post player.....as they never get doubled.

I am probably going to play with Golden State to avoid the problem as they have no post players worth a double anyway. If you want to use the Spurs, Magic, Bulls, Heat, Mavs etc and post guys like Duncan Boozer Bosh Howard Dirk etc then the game is basically ruined as you can post all game without getting doubled.

Unacceptable. I can't believe they've become so complacent at 2K.

Simballer? Beluba? How'd this happen?
I have been double-teamed and I have been able to get the cpu to completely bite on pump fakes from time to time in my game experiences post patch. I have not performed any controlled tests like others - I have just played the game normally running plays with zero slider tweaks on superstar. Not denying that people who claim these things NEVER happen are lying just that I have not experienced the same thus far. I do not have video equipment...

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

I had Monta Ellis double teamed by the CPU on one possession when he got hot. I was suprised too. He didn't stay hot so I didn't see any more double teams. I wonder if the conditional logic for double teams is too restrictive-- like it keys in on hotness *and* how much you've been scoring or some other conditions rather than just how much you score.

I also saw Manu bite on a pump fake. It doesn't happen much though. Maybe once in several games. They do do the hand up response to a pump fake, but they recover instantly with sliding when you drive so you don't even get a slight step on them. Dorell Wright is supposed to fake out folks often with his pump fake. The commentators even mention that-- but no one in 2K12 bites for him.

Sigh. What happened at 2K this year? 2K11 incorprated so many elements present in the real game that just needed to be tuned slightly. A few things were too powerful, a few things not powerful enough. Instead, many things were wiped out of our game this year by the inhuman defense, presumably for "balance" or "a challenge". Our tools look better and are more refined, but now they are rarely effective. Instantly reacting defense is not fun. Not being able to fake out the CPU is not fun. Maybe the CPU getting snookered so much was a bit excessive last year, but it's better than perfect AI.

It really blows my mind how such a fundamental element of Basketball defense can be so overlooked by the A.I coding.

2k11 had double teaming down perfect.
The player didnt have to even be "hot" to get doubled. [which they were frequently, forcing you to look elsewhere and utilize proper ball movement.]
If there was a mismatch. a player whose offensive attributes were significantly superior to his Matchups Defensive attrubutes, the cpu would double immediately.
Why was this changed. when it was so well implimented?
We have gone from near perfect CPU doubling A.I to no doubling A.I.
