Full House Poker Review (360)

Xbox Live Arcade has plenty of board and card games, but some of them have skimped when it comes to features and presentation. Full House Poker doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not, and it excels within the confines of the digital download world.

Why so late on the review? This came out a year and a half ago

This one actually came out in the spring of this year, but we still thought it deserved a review.

Re: Full House Poker Review (360)

I was pretty disappointed with this game.

I thought it was going to have real online tournaments, but the Texas Heat mode is basically just "win as much money as you can in 30 minutes" and then the game ends.

Plus you end up playing at these 8-person Texas Heat tables with over half the players being CPUs.

I actually like the old Texas Hold 'Em XBLA game better, even though the presentation isn't as good.

Texas Heat is kind of fun, but not worth buying the game for. But what the reviews fails to mention is that the blinds structure for online play is better than any console poker game that has come out. With 15 minute blinds, there is plenty of time to play poker.

Most games try to get games over with quick, and your blinds are going up so fast that the only logical move is to start pushing all your chips in early. Often, you will find a few guys that don't realize that even if they lose half their stack, they still have enough chips to play without pushing all-in. But once they get out, I've had some fantastic games online.

The reviewer is dead on, though, about how easy it is to bully the AI. But the AI does play a solid game overall. And it will bluff and even check-raise. For a console game, it is more than adequate.

It's a great buy for its online play alone. It would be cool if we had enough guys to get some 10-30 player tournaments going. But just playing ranked multiplayer is still really fun.

As I said, if you are on when the Texas Heat stuff comes on, it is fun to play. But it encourages a lot of reckless play, and is too gimmicky for me to make time for.
