I know people lauded some past devs for their community interaction and I think credit should be given where credit is due. However, I can't recall how that extra PR had any effect on Madden or my general perception of it.

Seems to me the lack of tuner sets kind of speaks for itself, in that they said tuner sets would allow them to tweek certain aspects without having to wait on a patch. So no tuner sets would seem to suggest there is nothing that can be tweeked, instead of patched, that they think should be. I have seen people compare the NCAA 11 tuner set that addressed the DE/DT pressure, I think, but since tuners don't seem to be multiple choice, I guess they would rather leave well enough alone.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't think tuner sets can address much more than what slider sets can. So rather than putting out a factory slider set/tuner set, it seems reasonable to just let offline/online community players make their own adjustments, not rock the boat for online head to head players that are satisfied with the current settings and of course ignore online franchise players until hopefully next year. LOL

PS: I am not trying to be "smart" with that last comment because it has been implied that online franchise is a focal point for M13 but was not touched much for M12. Based on that it's reasonable to believe that online franchise players are probably not considered when making decisions about tuner sets.
I need to disagree with this just a bit.

When Ian was in charge, OS has members picked to go to Community Day for a few years. Also, Ian put a wish list up during the production of 10 in the main forum and when 10 was finished, he brought the wish list back up and stated 90% of what OS wished for was in the game.

So, OS did have a much more influence back then vs now.

As far as post-release goes, it just seems to me that Tiburon provided a lot of support for M10 & M11. I can't remember clearly for M10, but M11 received quite a few patches. Not to mention DLC to add even more authencity to their game. Just seems there was more enthusiasm and committment surrounding the previous product. This year, not so much...
Yeah, I was referring to post release because I would imagine there still to be a great deal of interaction pre-release for every Madden going forward for marketing purposes. Granted, I am bias because I don't have much belief in the benefit of tuners sets or patches for that matter, if the game is not fundamentally solid and that's my take on all the next-gen Madden's before M12.

I make no secret of my belief that M13 will break the Madden mold and think the current team has little interest in placing much focus on outgoing developers Madden "swan song". I think there will be far more post release interaction with M13 seeing as more current leadership would seem to have more personal investment in it.

Again, I was talking post release and I should have made that more clear. I think there will be just as much pre-release interaction as before and that it can't help but have some impact on the game.

That's a good point...and I hope you're right.

Personally I think the interaction was a big crock. I saw a lot of promises being made and a lot of things on display that never made it into the game. Things like adaptive AI, foot planting, WR/DB interaction. Remember those videos Ian showed of the running prototypes? None of that is in Madden today. During Madden 11 and 12's development, I started hearing excuses more than anything else. You could also sense some agitation on behalf of the dev team. They seemed to be more irritated with their customer base rather than embracing them.

We have gotten two patches, but who knows if we'll see anything else. I've been personally wondering if they've internally shifted a lot of focus to M13. Maybe there is some truth to the next wave of consoles debuting late next year, and they want to make launch?

Otherwise, they've really dropped the ball on how M12 was handled post launch -- at least when you compare it to the amount of support that the inferior M11 received.
I would say that's a safe bet that they are working on M13 since its about a 10 month dev time for the out front portions. They have stated before that tunes are for any issues they feel requires immediate fixing (usually gameplay involved). So it is safe to say that there isn't anything gameplay related that requires immediate attention and should pull people away from next years game.

.... Just an educated guess.
