It's a defemce mechanism, eh? When you play a sport you simple understand things that the every day person, who simply watches it from the couch doesnt. Many people here are claiming that there is no feel... yet to me, Barca plays like barca -- numerous passes, using the lines, inside out, etc... no other team in the demo plays like that. So if you play holding the speed button all the time, or if Xavi gets the balls you run up to him, he passes it to Iniesta so you run up to him, etc... well, no, then Barca wont play like Barca.

I have never played hockey so in NHL i say i dont like certain things, but friends of mine tell me why certain things happen, and how to adjust, and voila, the game improved dramatically.

So no, it's not an excuse, it's the truth. I dont care if you've played soccer all your life because if you've played it poorly, then what does that matter? This game is too short to judge, but in the 3 minutes we get it represents the game of football much better than PES, where passes and shots seem pre-determined.

OK. Let's see:

College Scholarship as a soccer player, semi pro soccer player, coached the captain of the US National Women's team that won the World Cup a few years back.

Umm, does that make me qualified?

The game is the same all the time. There is no personality to it.

Not even the people who love it can defend it from a tactical point of view. Let's see how quickly the cpu can fire the ball forward to the strikers who do 100% of the scoring.

God forbid a midfielder score from distance, let alone take a shot.

And, you clearly aren't playing FIFA if you say the teams play differently. Barca does not stand out in any way as different.

Its pretty but its not soccer. 5th grade soccer maybe, where all the kids go 100% forward 100% of the time. But, big boy soccer it is not.

How can you say that?

The CPU won't shoot from distance with players who should shoot from distance.

The CPU doesn't play the ball backwards to slow things down and attempt to probe.

Every team plays the same way.

I want Barca to make me crazy with numerous passes in the midfield, to include many that go backwards. But, they play no differently than any other team.

Its pretty, yes. But, its not soccer.

I tend to agree with you about the A.I.'s shortcomings. I would love to see the CPU set me up in a one on one with Ronaldo and go into some tricks or have Messi and Barca slash my D around the box. But I have come to love Fifa and accept this fact: Fifa is an offensive minded game. It's not nearly as strategic as PES, but it is fun. I really enjoy it for what I can do. Be it building up and disecting the D with a through-ball, or getting my sticks twirling to set up a highlight goal. I don't think a lot of Fifa fans are much different than me. Serious Fifa players like playing other human opponents.

I have always loved it because I think it stirkes the perfect balance of the "wow" moments of soccer. It could be better in regards to build up and probing, but we are talking about a game that most people play in two 10-minutes halves. You can't really have a slow pace to the game, or it'll be a whole lot of draws. And the cottage industry of Fifa Highlight reels will die. All jokes aside, I love both games, but Fifa will always be my fave. I like the controls, the graphics (especially this year on PC) and the level of tricks they've added. Sure it's got a bit of Fifa Street in it's heart. But it's a great soccer videogame to me. Warts and all....

P.S. Wait for the CEP guys to get a hold of the PC version. A lot of the flaws will get addressed. They can tweak the gameplay through the .ini files to fix a lot of the niggles, especially the Defensive pressure by AI teamates. But probably not the inherent nature of this being a run and gun style of game. I can't see this game ever being programmed that way . It sells pretty good with the current style of soccer it plays....

Why are we still doing the FIFA/PES debate in this thread?

It's nearly impossible to talk FIFA/PEs without comparing the two.

Here's a thought, and it's not meant to be a jab in any way, but if you guys hate when people talk FIFA/PES in same thread, why not create a thread for us to do so?

Give us a place to talk about what we want without getting the ban hammer for something trivial.

I wasn't meaning to get into a debate. I was just saying there are two different underlying philosphies behind the game styles. I love both, but you see where my greater loyalties lie! Fifa rules! Pes, almost as much! Madden still sucks!

You are free to have your opinion on the comparison between the two games; the mods obviously don't want us debating it, even in a civil manner.

But to tell someone that they don't understand the game because they've never played- or worse yet- because they played poorly is just wrong. It doesn't take a professional playing career to understand and appreciate Barca's play. If he's not seeing it, it isn't because he is a bad soccer player.

It's the simple fact that Fifa as a game does not pose any real strategic soccer gameplay to me. Case and point is the "Tactical defending" in Fifa vs "Hold-Up Possession" in PES. I have yet to see the CPU in the Fifa demo pass the ball back and look for a different run or option on offense. It's the same cards played almost every time and it gets old quickly.

I love the fact that this sport has competition in the video game realm -- I just have simply found my soccer nirvana elsewhere. =)
The "Hold up Possesion" in PES has got to be one of the crappiest things to ever be invented. The CPU NEVER take risks. It's like playing against England with Terry and Ferdinand playing 30 passes between each other before deciding to play it forward.

Thank you for the comic relief.

You have said enough for me to realize you have NO credibility at all on the subject.

Have a nice day.
