Come on, look at the evolution of athletes. The guys Russell played against would be bench players during Jordan's era and today. Just look at how the size of athletes has changed. Russell barely had anyone that could match him in size, the league had a lot fewer teams so its no shock that he won that many rings. These days you have near 7 footers like Dirk & Durant or 6'8 guys like Lebron who can shoot and handle like a PG/SG. Imagine if Lebron played in that era, he'd dominate.

Comparing pro athletes back then to now is a joke. Same goes for football.

I think its too hard to say who was the greatest team of all time because they didn't play the same competition. While the 96 Bulls are my favorite, keep in mind that nobody thinks the Undefeated Dolphins are the greatest football team ever because they went undefeated. They benefitted from a ridiculously weak schedule. The 18-1 Patriots were head and shoulders better than those Dolphins but the Dolphins didn't lose a game (even though technically the Pats went 2 more games than they did undefeated).

The time machine argument is a weak one. The evolution of the game is just that. You cant have a future without the past. The only reason players are capable of what they are today is because they have the luxury of building on the creativity of players from the past. Kobe Bryant is the prime example. If you took him as an 18 year old and dropped him in the year 1976 he wouldnt look anything remotely close to what his is now. Why? Because he's based 90% of his game on Michael Jordan ( the same goes for guys like VC, T-Mac ect). The time machine argument is a slippery slope at best.

Thats a stupid arguement. Just look at it black & white, players these days are more athletic, more skilled, in better condition so they are better players than the players in the past. Add to that the fact that coaching these days is much better. I find it more stupid to brag about Russell dominating when players back then weren't as skilled or athletic so the competition was not only weaker but there were fewer team, shorter schedule, etc. Would Russell still be great if he played in this era? Of course but he wouldn't have been as dominate as he was.

Thats why even though Russell has 11 rings people still consider Jordan to be the GOAT.

1. I'm pretty sure 44% was pretty solid for his time.
2. He wasn't an offensive player. He was a defensive god. I remember reading that if they had kept track of blocks, he might have averaged over 10 per game.

So I'm assuming you understand all the dynamics involved in time travel. Enlighten us all, please, don't be shy. I'll check back in later.
