Re: NBA 2K12 Preview-Going Retro With NBA's Greatest

Indeed, different flavors to different tastes ... for me, having these teams with those role players and fillers is the ultimate utopy ... those "lesser" players combined with the back then stars to form what we now call "legends" ... they were an integral and almost indivisible part of those players achievement ... MJ would have not been GOAT without the likes of Cartwright, Paxon, Kerr, Longley and so the others ... if any, I would love to see more teams.

Actually, I think the better question would be whether the buzzer beater review is correctly only going to utilized in current games or if it's going to leak into the legends mode. With the depth of 2K's rule adjustments (no three point line prior to '80, the implementation of the 3-to-make-2 rule), I can't see 2K allowing the official reviews in the legends mode.

Re: NBA 2K12 Preview-Going Retro With NBA's Greatest

It's funny because just last night I popped in 2k7 just for a old time's sake and I played a game of 70's West vs 70's East. Let me tell you how that was not very fun. For one the graphical difference is beyond night and day. You also have the generic Jerseys but the biggest thing to me is that they just didn't feel authentic. The guys at 2k have done an amazing job at implementing tendencies and signature moves over the past two years.

I really hope that they've had the chance to focus on those small details (which they 9 times out of 10 surprise me with). I hope when I play against Pistol Pete he's treating every game like an all-star game and when I play against the Big O he's backing me down and shooting his little turn around.

In the past we've had the names and likenesses (at least sort of) of past stars but with what 2ks been doing lately, now it seems as if they found a way to bottle up their souls and let us play to our hearts content.

Its for all modes AFAIK. I saw it in games with regular teams. I didn't know it was in the game so when it happened it was HOTT ! really well done. Adds a lot to the immersive factor especially in a close down to the wire game.

EDIT I don't recall seeing it in the classic team mode though

Would have been cool touch to add Earl Strom as "legend" ref!

Re: NBA 2K12 Preview-Going Retro With NBA's Greatest

I was playing a crazy game with someone else that came right down to the wire, and we were talking about how great it would be if they added in review for buzzer beaters like they had in Live 05. The feeling of joy (or despair) when you find out the result of the game... man it's crazy. Glad they got this into 2K12.

I think some people really underestimate the power of this line right here. People chasing newer and younger sales for games sometimes forget that the older demographic once supported an entire industry all by themselves. I.E you can actually increase sales by catering to them also. It not just about getting 9 year old timmy hooked.
This. Right. Here.
