Most probably, that list is wishful thinking, and not even that wishful. Why wish for a bunch of teams that played as recently as 2006?
IMO the ONLY reason why that team being put in would be kind of believable is because with Magic being on the cover, I would think that 2K vastly improved the fastbreak game. And we all know haw fast that Suns team played.

That would be a cool reason, but not really enough, in my mind. However, since most players on that team still plays, it's an easy edit job to make them younger.

Personally, I think the timeframe is too close. 80's-90's teams makes more sense because of the nostalgia factor/hall of famers/rivalries.

Exactly. They can go pick up NBA 2K6 if they want the 2006 Suns.

Interesting list, but im hoping for some more 80's teams and early 90's. Ofcourse Im guessing the early MJ Bulls will be included and the championship Bulls, but Im hoping the 93 Suns, 92 Knicks, 89 Pistons, 86 Lakers, 86 Celtics, 96 Sonics, 89 Hawks, etc will also be included.

At this point, as others have said, I'd put zero stock into that post. There's no reference and 2K seems to be relatively tight-lipped on what they have in store. All signs point toward fiction there.

I wish the Bird cover had a different background, I think that the Johnson and Bird covers should feature colors that match their respective teams.

Not that this justifies it or anything, but I read yesterday that 2K's reasoning for the red background on each cover was a couple of things. 1) They feel red is their company's primary color (matching the "2K" logo) and 2) They were at least a little worried about giving off the idea of the Larry and Magic versions being different than the MJ version. I guess they thought different players may be confusing enough for some, where an entirely different colored box may lead to "Um, what's the difference between all three versions? Am I making a mistake by only buying Larry?" amongst many consumers.
