NBA 2K11 Top 10 in May NPDs, Physical Disk Sales Hit Five Year Low

Take-Two has to be happy that NBA 2K11 was still among the top 10 sellers in the video game industry in May. However, the rest of the industry isn't as physical game sales dipped to a five year low. While NBA 2K11 is selling well, it's rare to see it so high late in the year, which could easily be attributed to a weak field overall past the top few sellers. Given the low overall industry sales, a slowing economy and still high development costs -- one wonders how long the industry in its current form can last. The light sales can be attributed to the light release schedule in May, but the fact people aren't buying games more than a few weeks after their release should be a giant wake up call to publishers.

They gotta bring down that $60 plus paid DLC pricepoint. Developers should have enough of a grasp on PS3/360 tech to bring costs down by now.

Pretty much every game that comes out now is down to $40 in a week or two.

People just aren't willing to drop $60 for a game on release day anymore unless it's Call of Duty.
