Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)

its amazing to me that some people get warnings for legitimately making comparisons between the Show and 2k (you know, constructive posts), and then someone like emath shows up and trolls the hell out of this thread and nothing...

seriously, complaining that 2k's stick movements aren't realistic... its a video game, you're using your thumbs! And then your response to the "unrealistic sticks" is to play with what, uber realistic button scheme? If you want realistic motions, why don't you try leaving the house and throwing a baseball

and anyway, maybe the motions aren't trying to replicate what it's like to actually pitch a baseball... it seems to me it is intentionally more of a hybrid between that and mimicking the spin you would expect from each type of pitch. If you can't see the logic in the motions from say a normal curve, to a 12-6 curve, to a knuckle curve, then idk what to say. But it makes pretty damn good sense to me.

and bitching about the "terrible" batting camera. Guess what, apparently 2k doesn't make their games for you, because everyone else seems to think the camera is pretty damn good.

I mean, I'm a fan of legitimate complains as much as the next guy (like the still too frequent soft liners for example), but what are you trying to accomplish by coming in here and ranting and raving about stuff that 99% of gamers think 2k actually got right.

I think they should all be breakpoint pitches (where the four-seamer is just straight anyway so there is no effect). I forget how the sinker reacts to this.
Hey Blzer, are you sure about this, man? It seems to me the two-seamers are definitely breakpoint control, same as 2K10. With a RHP, they always break to the right of where I put the ball cursor and end up a few inches over to the right. If they were pinpoint, wouldn't that mean they would end up where I place the cursor? Or do I just need to lay off the doobies and work on my pitching gestures? hehe

I took the time to download, and play 3 games so far. I have said that the 360 version looks better in video than the PS3 version, and that my gripes are about this version.

Just because some people enjoy inferior games doesn't mean they need to get all bent out of shape and start accusing people of trolling when they give it a bad review.

Thank you very much, and have a nice evening.

Exactly. Never. I was accused of it, and I pointed out that I was not. You guys don't like my honest opinions, fine, but don't go accusing me of trolling. I am in here to give my opinion on the game. I have that right, last time I checked.

EDIT: Man, I am done with the demo. Plus, I don't feel like defending myself every time I don't like something. Will give the game a go in a couple of weeks (hopefully), and see what I think of the retail version, but def wont spend $60 on what I saw here.
You are right. That is my bad. You never accused anyone of trolling. However you, yourself were trolling with your "Just because some people enjoy inferior games" comment. What you consider an inferior game might be a great game for someone else.

So lets just call it a wash and move on.

Check swings are definitely in, Idk who said they weren't or why they said it. I've done more than a couple, but all were accidental, mostly because I commit too much to all of my swings.

-Very choppy framerate the majority of the time when putting the ball in play.

-Hit a HR but the camera stays zoomed out. Hopefully that's just a demo limitation.

-Graphics are average.

-analog pitching is really good in this game, though I still prefer button batting/pitching

Not impressed overall. This has to be an early build of the game, other wise......

He has a valid point about the random stick movements. For me it's not so much the randomness of it that bugs me, it's that you complete it and then the pitcher performs the pitch. In the other game, regardless of which control scheme you choose, you have to perform the pitch as your pitcher goes through his windup. And to me that just seems a hell of alot more realistic. And for the record, I love the other games analog controls, I think they out did 2K 10 fold. Not even close IMO.

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)

Actually, I'm not that impressed with the overall demo after playing about two games...some of the animations just look weird and rushed to me...for example, the way the baserunners run and the way some of the fielders field the ball and throw it just looks weird.

What I do love about MLB 2K11 is the batting camera It's very easy for me pick up pitches, see what kind of pitch is coming, and adjust accordingly...very nice.

Other than that, nothing really jumps out at me about this being a great game, so far...maybe it's just the hollow feel of the demo that's just not doing it for me.

Well said, pal. I was gonna post something earlier about this very type of thing. Its bothersome to read "Show this" and "Show that" all the time, especially when people flat out dismiss the game because it's not The Show. I'm as big a fan of The Show as any person on these boards and would like to see SOME minor elements of that game implemented in 2K's (which I mentioned in my impressions earlier in the thread). But what I definitely don't want is The Show Jr., which it seems some people are asking for.

There is no reason why any open-minded individual can't enjoy TWO baseball games, especially with two games that approach the game of baseball so differently. The Show is the most polished, authentic replication of any sports game out there (imo) so yeah, its better than the 2K game. And of course this game is missing that level of polish that The Show has. This series has bounced from one developer to another and another, never being allowed to fully realize their respective vision for the game. The Show has had largely the same dev team working on it for close to a frickin decade. How can you compare the two fairly?

I, along with many on here, like where this game is headed. If you don't like it, nobody is telling you that you have to. But when I read that the pitching in this game is stupid/unrealistic/worse than The Show's etc. then I am led to believe that an individual is hating for the sake of hating. The pitching in this game is arguably the most organic analog control scheme ever created for a sports game. Its fair to say "its not for me". Not fair to say any of the other criticisms I've read in here and it makes me question the poster's motive and dis-regard their "opinion" altogether.
