Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here

Not sure what is going on but either the commentary or the overall atmosphere is putting me to sleep.

Like someone already mentioned, it feels like "Been there........done that." The new throwing and batting is good which gives the game a lift.

I know it is just a demo but I hope they inject some more life into the game. Just looks like a tweaked version of MLB 10 but again it is a demo, only four innings and I am sure there was quite a few things missing such as other scores around the league in your franchise, ect.

As an admitted skeptic and one who hasn't been excited by a single announcement made for MLB '11, I must say that I am truly impressed by the demo. The new graphics and animations were easily noticeable to me, and I even had fun with the analog controls (pitching and fielding were very easy for me to adapt-almost seamless, I didn''t even bother trying the batting and probably never will).

IF they come through with the franchise updates ( really just don't want to see a repeat of the year 5- free agent breakdown) I will definitely be purchasing this game.

Just saw a nice example of the variance in analog fielding. Earlier in this game I threw full power from short, got the red meter and, predictably, an offline throw to first and an error. Just a moment ago on a bunt that was hit too hard, I made exactly the same motion with the 1st baseman, full power throw to 2nd but got GREEN instead, and a throw that was good enough to get the force at second.

Not having as much of a problem with the fielding as I feared - that one aforementioned throw has been my only error. Lots of routine ground ball chances.

My analog HITTING, on the other hand is another story - more on that and the pitching when (if) this game ends...

For those you have thought the last few games have been stale and were hoping the new controls would add some life... they don't. Hitting is a little more fun, but dice rolls still determine your results instead of what you are doing at the plate. Rock N Fire pitching got old after 1 inning.

The analog controls are great; love how you tilt the stick to throw high or low when fielding.

Batting will take some practice though; I struck out by accidentally bunting a few times.

This game looks amazing. The fans have been pumped up, you can definetly hear the difference. The new analog controls are amazing. I love them all. With fielding, I like how you control the errors. Hahaha, I had one play in the 3.5 hole, my second basemen dove, fielding it, and i hit O instead of the analog, and i lost the out. I totally forgot about the analog. The analog pitching is great. I like how you control where your pitches go when you shoot up on the right stick. Analog Batting, I like it a lot, however I just couldn't hit anything. I had a few solid line drives to the gaps, and i had one long fly ball to the warning track that got caught, but I still don't feel very confortable. I feel like I swing and miss a lot. I just don't know when to start my stride, when the pitcher raises his leg, when he releases, idk. Anybody know the trick?

If dice rolls are determining hitting results then I must be rolling craps every time....

I like some of the new animations and even the addition of Eric Karros is a nice touch. I can do the analog fielding and pitching but the analog hitting is proving to be quite a challenge. Striking out four and five times in a row was very common for me. I haven't been able to check my swing with any kind of consistency so batting has been "all or nothing". I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself playing with the game with the face buttons of yesteryear rather than trying to slog through the new analog stick control scheme and the accompanying learning curve. Innovation's great but I don't know if I'll actually adopt it.

All in all, MLB 11 looks like a winner to me.
