If people were so determined to see a new football game, they would've purchased thiose titles just to send a message to the NFL and EA how they feel.

Why not take the risk? There is zero to fear.
It was big talk around here and in the respective forum.

In business, you are always looking over your shoulder.

Nobody knows if there is 0 fear down the road if they don't partner with the NFl on a license.

No one will change my mind that the NFL and EA won't have a long term partnership for the foreseeable future.

If you don't feel that way , I'm not going to change anyone else's mind, either.

Maybe paying 9 figures in cash for an exclusive deal only to have sales remain flat and/or decrease has something to do with that ?

EA has gotten all the benefits it needed at this point. Why pay to shut out a competitor that doesn't exist?

Continuing to pay for an exclusive license is kinda like building that fence on the Mexican border. It costs an insane amount of money and no terrorists have ever crossed into the US from there anyways.
lLike the ole saying goes, dont count your chickens before they hatch.. There is enough hunger for another game just by reading these forums and believe me if another company , especially one like Sony or Microsoft feels they can compete and they can, they will make a NFL game. I believe though that the NFL are rabbits and go back to EA and tell them if they want to keep making Madden to sign another extension...

Starting to think that Roger Goodell is Vince McMahon's illegitimate son!!

What a well written article. Common sense, realism, no bias or agendas a rarity on the net.

However, you could incorporate multi hit tackles, proper gang tackling, different animations, etc. Other things like adding spectator modes for online play. Street Fighter 2 has this. How about progressive lighting? That was already in older games. Enhance the player interaction so that penalties are actually called. How about adding all of the real penalties that are in football. There are ways to innovate without taking big risk. It's the lack of polish that really gets EA's football the criticism. It does a lot of things, but nothing is done well. You get the feeling that it was hacked together with tape and band aids. Take the challenge system for example. I mean, I hate to say this, but do you ever wonder if the developers who own the code for that are scratching their head wondering how 2k was able to do it so incredibly accurately in their game? How 2k was able to have penalties like ineligible man downfield and illegal touching (when you go out of bounds and are the first person to touch the ball), progressive lighting, functioning online league websites that actually have useful content. How about proper DB/WR interaction innovation? Make it blow me away. There is absolutely nothing in Madden that will blow you away. Even their cut scenes are awful and out of context. The first thing you think of when you see a wrong cut scene is that this was done very lazily. It completely ruins the immersion of the game. Not to mention the embarrassment of having Chris Collinsworth call Gus Tom, completely showing they didn't even have the guys in the same room together. Really? I'm sorry, but that list I just gave is plenty enough to warrant lots of criticism.
I haven't even touched Madden in quite some time and after reading this I'm glad I haven't. I'm glad I'm not a buyer of Madden after reading this. Am I a fan of Madden? Nope. Am I ***** on Madden? Nope. I played Madden's on the last gen PS2 and loved those games. I don't think near as much was expected of those games because of the generation. With the systems that are put in place today this game should be well above where it is at. Is it money? No competition? Are game developers not given enough freedom to do what they want because higher-ups don't give that to them? Are the folks making this game not aware that there are more types of penalties in football that what are in this game? Do they not know how to incoporate code to allow this? Are they afraid of messing something else up at the cost of adding a feature? This game is stale and I simply get that from watching videos here at OS and youtube. I don't know what it is. I own a game from EA sports, NHL 11, and love it. I know it's not the company putting out a lame and stale *** game. Give me, the consumer, the owner of a friggin 65 dollar game better presentation, better gameplay, better, better, better. If I wanted less value for my buck I'll go watch a pirates game at PNC just down the road. Come on Madden, you're the only NFL game in town. Give me the best simulation game around. Thanks.
