Isn't it possible that they've only coded the surprise kicks and haven't yet tied celebration animations to the kicks yet?
By George, you might be onto something

I agree with you there. Having tuner sets is a step in the right direction. The bitching is not even close to being warranted at this point in the game's release cycle. No one knows how the game's going to be at release... not even developers! To immediately write the game off is short-sighted at best.

It's quite possible. We've got multiple months before the game goes gold.

Anything is possible, but that doesn't mean it's probable. At this stage of the game, I've been disappointed too much, I need to see it to believe it.

Yet you're not going to wait to bash the game? Let's step back for a minute. Let's look at what we know about Madden 12.

It's got tuner sets.
It's got surprise onsides.

That is pretty much all we know. Anything we saw in that build Ian was playing could be changed at any time.

All I'm asking is to wait to bash the game. The game is not anywhere close to a shippable state. Madden hasn't been great, but just because a game hasn't been great doesn't mean it can't recover. FIFA recovered. EA NHL recovered. Let's give Ian and co. a chance to improve it without jumping down his throat because he showed us two features that he barely got approved.

Well then just wait and see and move on.

Moving on......

I never play NCAA so I will be curious to see the effect the tuner set brings to this game. And As long as the surprise onside has balance, its a great feature. I am so tired of guys taking something like this and then complaining about it claiming its going to ruin online. The next sentence they claim they dont even play online. So annoying.

On top of all that, we also know it's being built on top of Madden NFL 11, which is actually (speaking strictly on-the-field) a pretty solid and fun football video game, IMO.

Are there things we all want to see done for Madden 12? Sure. Are the two new features unveiled in Ian's blog a fine start, particularly with the knowledge that the best is yet to come? Indeed they are.

Re: Madden NFL 12 Super Bowl Halftime Blog: Tuner Sets and Surprise Onside Kicks

Tuner sets are great. Surprise onside kicks is ok, but I worry about the "what you see on sundays" being taken out of context. Yes, we have seen it, but its rare and only fits certain situations. The problem I see often with madden development is they take one particular highlight play and turn it into a regularity in their game. For example, the pro-tak, break out of a 5 man gang tackle happens far too often. It should happen maybe once in a season, if that.

What I really want to see is a lot of enhancements made to online franchise. How about adding sliders to online franchise? How about consecutive hit tackling and advancing pro-tak? How about adding all of the real penalties and having them called legitimately? PI, Ineligible man downfield, etc. etc. We haven't seen the game yet, so these things might in fact be fixed. The problem I have is that too often these once in a great while highlight types of plays get put in the game when the true things we see EVERY sunday are missing. That directly contradicts the "everything you see on sundays" mantra. The game is not a bad game. This is the first Madden I've enjoyed in almost 10 years. Playing in an online franchise is all I use, but the gameplay is not bad. There are still a lot of things missing that are football regularities, and yes, older games had those things, including older versions of Madden. That should be priority number one. I've accepted the fact that we probably won't get much innovation out of Madden. However, it would be nice to finally get the real football fundamentals in the game.
