And like I said, im not saying he's promoting how he use to live, but my point was people can look at it and say that people can mess up all they want and come back and preform and everything is forgotten..so why avoid doing it in the first place. Im not saying its right but there are people that see that..I have heard stupid kids say these kid of things. Kids are starting to be conditioned that theres always a second chance no matter what you do so why actually discipline yourself...

I think that you're missing my point. I'm not going to carry this on any further except for ask you this: do you believe that Hamilton's story is a success or a failure?

And I guess you missed my point..him being successful isnt necessarily an all positive message..it should be but in the real world people dont look at it as oh he fixed his life..they look at as oh he messed up and was still a world class athlete..guess that means if I get hooked I can come back and be better than ever and not lose anything. Just the way it is

OK, thanks for answering. I see your point, and I think you see mine. I just don't agree that people will start doing drugs just because some celebrity messed up, got lucky, and came back.

No I completely see your point and I agree ideally you're right...Im not saying kids will do drugs to be like him..but faced with the choice..saying no may be less likely because kids think that theres always a second chance. The best thing he can do is never wavier. He's never allowed to fail again..and honestly I hope he never does. Hes a great ball player and seems to be in the right place

Re: Joe Mauer Returns Again, Announced as MLB 11 The Show Cover Athlete

I think there is a trend with covers. You usually see sparkly clean players. Mauer is a golden boy. Jeter for 2k all those years, spotless reputation. Halladay is the same way. Lincecum got a cover behind the marijuana stuff came out, right? He was the goofy little kid winning Cy Youngs.

Think about those guys: Clean cut, spotless reputation, no tattoos. Basically like little perfect people so to speak.

Now think about Hamilton, Cabrera, Hernandez. These guys have tattoo's, Cabrera and Hamilton more so than Hernandez. Hamilton has been through hell and back. Cabrera had drinking problems. I dont think they want Hamilton on there with his arms and past problems. Same with Cabrera, tattoo's and past troubles. Hernandez has that "hot dog" look with his hat to the side, same with Cabrera. I dont know how to say this really, but they are hot dogs compared to Jeter and Halladay and Mauer. They have the footie pajama pants that old people dislike so much. All 3 of them have long dangling chains around their neck. Cabrera admires homeruns. Hernandez struts around the mound with his hat crooked after a strikeout. I think they carry a totally different perception than the guys who usually get covers.

Maybe I'm wrong in thinking this way. But Cabrera and Hamilton are great stories. Hamilton went through hell and back in order to be such a great success on the field. Once Cabrera stopped drinking, his life turned around and he had a great 'comeback' year. I think that these are things should be applauded and they shouldn't scare companies away from using them as spokesman for the game.

There is a certain athlete that gets on covers. The clean cut guys. The hot dog type of players don't see covers. They guys with tattoo's don't get covers. The guys with chains don't get covers. The guys who aren't golden boys to the media don't get covers.

I mean Hamilton is one of the most popular players, great story, just won the MVP and his team went to the World Series.

Joe Mauer hits 9 homeruns, complains about his ballpark, doesnt nothing extraordinary except have his team fail to win a playoff game again.

But Hamilton used to be on drugs. He arms are covered in tattoo's. Mauer is the golden boy from Minnesota with a nice smile that people love so much.

I don't want to come off the wrong way. But I dont think it's a coincidence that players like Hamilton, Cabrera, or Hernandez don't get on covers and I don't agree with it.

Joe Mauer: "Hey there PlayStation, it's good to hear that you finally know who I am now after having five straight .800 OPS seasons. I trust that you got me to play a little more like myself this time?"

Kevin Butler: "Well champ, not only did we help you out but we revamped the entire league as well, capturing over 300 new player-specific animations and facial renderings. Add right stick control for more intuitiveness, and if that's not your game... who needs the controller? I can use the Move to swing just like you!"

Joe Mauer: "Heh heh, I think you're a long ways away from swinging like me there big guy."

Kevin Butler: (slowly puts 3D glasses on) "Au contraire, mi Cabo amigo. I seem to remember things a bit differently against the Yankees last October."

Joe Mauer: "... well played, Butler."

MLB 11: The Show

It only does... Realism... Move... 3D... Everything.

... well played, Blzer.
