Steelcurtain your right bout the animations its so frustrating that i can play ncaa and they have the best jump ball animations with the db and wr, but play madden the receiver has no awarness to even prepare to jump and the db is too busy looking at his feet to realize the ball is inthe air.

So, you don't want us to criticize them, understandable. But what else should we do, if we don't give them a list of suggestions? They talked about Defense, and different additions to madden which makes madden 12 suggestions relevant. Do you want us to blow their quotes out of proportion regarding NBA Elite, and how they are not trying to be Sim which is clearly not the case? What exactly do you want us to talk about?

Criticize all you want. Just don't do it in a personal fashion. I'm saying 200 line wishlist posts go in the wishlist thread...

I am 100% in agreement with everyone that Madden should be able to have realistic stats, penalties, physics, locomotion, blocking, catching, etc, you name it. I'm just saying that the DEFAULT settings out of the box are going to be shorter games and less penalties. More sliders and customization and toggles are all means to get to an ultimate perfect simulation for those that want it.
Props to you Ian for coming on here and interacting with Madden fans and critics. I hope you dont get too frustrated with people misunderstanding your posts, it happens on forums to everyone.

I personally understand when you say that major changes take alot of time and development cycle focus. However, the problem is, IMO, what we as gamers are left with in the meantime. I could wait years for major improvements if the minor year to year improvements made Madden more immersive.

NFL 2k5 was NOT perfect by any means and had lots of room for improvement. However, that game did a really good job of using minor features to immerse the gamer. Customization, ESPN broadcast presentation, random events like food poisoning, etc.

I dont think Madden is a terrible game or that you guys dont work hard. What I do think, is that there has not been enough attention placed on atmosphere and immersion. If minor things like presentation and customization were focused on more every year, gamers would be more patient about major upgrades that might take 2 or more years to fully implement.

"Beyond Broadcast" has not helped make Madden immersive, quite the opposite, IMO. I have never been to an actual NFL game and I would think that goes for most Madden gamers. Network broadcasts of NFL games, shows and highlights is what makes the real NFL so immersive for most fans.

It works for the NFL so I think it would naturally work for Madden.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: Madden NFL Designers Podcast #2

I have to strongly disagree, a lot of football fans have managed to find their way to at least one NFL game and if not then at least a college football game.

Both are pretty similar in the way they are handled on the field just the uniforms and speed of the game are slightly different.

Point is everyone knows the broadcast is meant to resemble tv but there are plenty of aspects broadcast trys to get to make you feel like you are on the field or at the game, much like the sky cam for instance. Hell the way you watch the games on tv are basically sitting yay high up in the stands with enhanced zoomed in vision.

I do not believe they do not understand what we're asking for when we talk immersion and broadcast, they just haven't quite nailed it just yet is all.

Kane699, what are you disagreeing with? You think most Madden gamers have been to a NFL game? Network broadcasting does NOT make the NFL more immersive?

I never stated "they do not understand", I stated there has not been enough attention focused on these aspects yearly.

I don't understand what you strongly disagree with about my post. Maybe you are a Native American and didn't like my happy Thanksgiving reference. If so, I apologize. LOL

Well, they should understand. It's not like their making the first example of a broadcasting presentation ever! They can just look at all the games playing that week, as an example, or look at games like nhl 11, mlb the show, nfl 2k5, and nba 2k11. Everything is there for helping them improve and "copy" off of, they're just not executing to the quality we expect from them. They need to have it flow and make it come alive. (sorry for my wishlist comment, but I think everyone hopes for this).
