Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

I have the game for the 360 and have done about 50 practice laps and two race weekends (40% race distance). Impressions so far are generally good. I really enjoy the game and the immersion while racing with 23 other cars. The game play on the track is intense. A couple of observations/opinions:

1. Fuel simulation is well done on your car. As a race goes on you car gets lighter, more agile, and you can adjust your break points/driving accordingly. However, AI cars do not consume fuel and run faster as the race goes on (for example, in my first GP Alonso set fast lap on the second lap of the race on "full race fuel"). They run as if on low fuel the whole race. As a result, you have to turn fuel simulation off if you want to be on par with the AI. I really hope this gets fixed in a patch. (this is in career mode, not sure about other modes).

2. The pit bug is not much of an issue so long as you pit a couple laps early or a couple laps late. However, I have yet to get caught in the rain which might necessitate pitting with the rest of the field. I anticipate a problem there.

3. The feedback on spinning tires/locking brakes is weak. You really have to pay close attention as opposed to forza 3 where you hear/feel the tires squeal right away. I have resorted to traction control for the time being, but can run without ABS pretty well right now. (I'm on the official xbox wheel).

4. The tire simulation is excellent. The way the tires degrade and the track rubbers in is phenomenal. You probably have to run at least 20-30% distance to appreciate this. You also have to take care of your tires for long stints. If you go out and run balls to the wall power sliding through turns and pounding the curbs you will get a puncture or wear your tires real fast. Going offline will lose traction and get marbles on your tires which take a few turns to wear off. In addition, locking up or running off course will adversely affect your traction/tire wear. I have thrashed my tires after a couple laps and permanently messed them up. I struggled to run a good lap until I got a fresh set.

5. Overall this is a good mix between arcade/sim IMO. Definitely more Sim than arcade, but not a dedicated sim by any means.

Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

the same as with qualifying is also true in race (posted times having no connection with what actually happens on the track) : http://community.codemasters.com/for...ai-phoney.html

Just now i was racing in Melbourne, 7th with Petrov ahead. I am fairly sure he was about 10 or so seconds ahead at some point as he was just visible on the radar before moving clear after a mistake of mine, from then on for 10 laps i was allways about 1-2 seconds faster acording to the lap times, at the end of the race i was behind by 20 seconds ...

This reminds me of FIFA and there sad excuse for a management-mode

Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

I'm starting to wonder if they pressed two different codes for this game.

Seriously. Mine is broken. Bad.

Besides the pit problem I have had the following issues. Note that I play each race 100% length and AI set to medium.

Constantly getting hit with penalties even though it's not even close to being my fault. An AI car barely touches mine and POOF! I get a 10 second penalty.

I have been "stuck" in position from start to finish. Meaning, I start at 12th position starting the race and finish 12th. EVEN after I stopped and pulled over off the track and let cars whiz by. WT...? I sit there for 10 minutes and yet I retain my 12th position?

If you use fuel sim "On" then you will start with a full tank while the rest of the cars don't. They leave your butt behind in a flash and you can never catch up. They are light and you are heavy

AI cars not pitting. Not ONCE in a 100% length race! Obviously you're screwed because you do have to pit.

Driver disappearing. Happened a few times. Weird.

And this kills me- This is from someone on the CM's website. He observed this, among many others including myself:

"The cars you see running, other than you, aren't your opponents. They are there just for fill. In qualifying, the times you see in your monitor, haven't been run by these other cars, they're computer generated in the background. This is why there's no replay to see AI laps, or anything like that. In race as well, the other cars only show up to your screen when you're close - other times there's just computer generated lap times for them running around."

The AI cars performance is phony. Big time.

I have NEVER in my 30 years of gaming experienced a game so full of bugs/glitches. Never. I've had more than my share of pathetic games but this game ...this game seems like NO ONE tested it. EVER!

And I thought EA was bad. lol

I am seriously bummed. So much promise yet we get this? Wow...

I can't wait to hear what Codemasters does with this fiasco. Supposedly the developers have called an emergency meeting for Monday. Emergency indeed

You see this is what I don't get. You and many people on the CM forum are reporting the exact same myriad of numerous problems. That basically this game is a bug ridden piece of crap yet mostly people here say they see hardly any problems at all. So either they do have 2 games pressed for retail sale or some people refuse to acknowlegde that these are game killers. I guess it's not a chance I'm willing to take. If the ******** and scripted AI is really that bad it can't be patched because it's a design decision not a glitch.

Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

The fact that we may presumably wait a few weeks for a patch actually doesn't bother me at all because I'll need that long to even get the tracks down, lol.

I've gone into this thing with all aids off just to learn it sim from the beginning. I've played a lot of NASCAR, Indycar, GTR, etc., but no real F1 to speak of. Boy do I have a learning curve. I'm not really familiar with any of the tracks, so right now I may just be Time-Trialing it for days/weeks anyway just to get the turns memorized.

Those people who go without any aids and say this game is easy must either play a lot of F1 or are racing gods.

I've put this game down. I won't be playing it again until it's patched. It's doing my head in all these bugs and glitches.

Bring on NBA 2K11.

Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

I'm disappointed. This is really nothing better than an F1 hot lap competition.

With all the bugs present in the game, it's another example of a publisher clearly not testing a game before it was released. Not having a demo should have been our first clue. There's no way that some (if not most) of these bugs were not known before the release. Just another publisher pushing out a game when it's not done, and planing on patching it at a later date (if it sells well enough).

It's sad, because this really has potential. The tracks are well done, the cars drive reasonably well....but that's about it. Everything else is either broken or half finished. I guess we were suckered in by the "passion" these guys had for the sport and reading about how they captured the feel of F1 and the meticulous detail they supposedly were putting into the game.

I really feel like this is another company putting out a half-assed effort and then explaining it away as "It's our first year of development, we'll do much better next year".

Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

Is this bug issue a console thing, because I got the PC, and honestly not having these issues.

Can someone confirm if this is just PS3/360 issue?

I'm really enjoying the PC version and the game is great so far to me.
