I mean for the vast majority of the player overalls, this scale is a solid way to get a sense of where I player stands regarding the rest of the league.

Also I wouldn't say overall's are predetermined. There should be some reason for general consensus Say Dirk is an 83. Right now he's an all star. Not the MVP he was several years ago. Not All First-team any more. But an all star. I mean, I'd say that's a true statement. We know the individual stats somehow calculate the players overall, even if we're not sure exactly how they weight it. But if Dirk as an 83 is legit, and his rebounding isn't that great and his defense is certainly terrible, then he's gotta be amazing in other areas. Amazing shooter, amazing free throw guy, solid handles for a 7 footer... The reason he's not a high 80s guy is BECAUSE his rebounding and defense are low.

I dunno maybe I'm misunderstanding your question/point. Would you say it again differently for me?
While I agree with some of the things you've said, there is no way Wade/Lebron are HOF worthy yet. Kobe? Of course. It's to soon for Wade/Lebron, and I like wade. Other then that I am ok with this post lol/

Haha OK I mean here's the thing. The ratings for any one particular year are for where a player is at "that year." it's not like a culmination of their whole careers. I think it's pretty hard to argue that if James and Wade play at the level they've played at the last 5 years of their careers, and play that way for 5 more, that they'll be HOFrs easy. can't tell the future, obviously, but if you look at the caliber players they are now and assume there's no major drop offs (which there's no reason to) then they're GOATs for sure. Kobe is further along in his career so his case has been made, unlike James and Wade who are younger, but if we fast forward 5 years down the road James and Wade are gonna be statistically in the realm of other greats.

I see CP3 needs to remind some people why he's a top 5 player in the NBA.

Man, I'm so jacked for this season.

Sorry that haha sounded condescending once I went back and read my post and again, I can't find the button to edit it so let me qualify. I just mean that you can always argue that a player might not "end up" as very good, or very bad, but you just can't know. You can look at where they are now though, and where they have been, in relation to everyone else. It's not like they're both rookies and last year might be a fluke. They're both amazing players. And with out question, if those guys continue to be those same players, at the end of the day they'll be in the upper echelon (though maybe not the highest) of the basketball pantheon.

Re: NBA 2K11: Starting Five Roster Ratings

Fng,

I think that overall ratings are predetermined for the guys at the top. I do believe that. I believe that 2K Sports went into the player ratings distribution with the knowledge that they want LeBron, Wade, and Kobe to all have 97 ratings out of the box.

I think that is wrong. I think doing it that method leads to inaccuracies because 2K Sports has to have certain players reach a certain overall grade no matter what.

I am sure that Mike Jordan will be a 99 rated player because of this. Since he is the best player ever, he has to be a 99 rated overalls or people would have a problem with 2K Sports.
