Re: NBA 2K11 Demo Available Now, Impressions and Discussion Here (360,PS3)

Ok...keep in mind that I haven't played 2k basketball on a regular basis before, so I apologize if I state something thats obvious or been in the game forever. With that said, this game is SICK! Absolutely SICK!

I have played about 20 games of the demo and it just keeps getting better and better, most likely due to the fact that I am still learning the controls and movement of the game and now that I'm getting isomotion down and the controls, I'm having more fun with the game. I gotta admit, its a big learning curve that is frustrating at times, but thanks to the sticky at the top and me just practicing(yes I'm talking about practice) I'm getting the hang of it and damn is it sweet.

Probably the biggest thing that stands out to me is the off ball movement, cutting, backdoors, etc. I played a game where I did nothing but control Bynum in the middle because I wanted to see how off the ball movement was and I enjoy coming over to help and swatting the shot. I was amazed at how the cpu waits for things to open up. They are setting screens trying to get playmakers the ball. I didn't see Rondo jacking up 3's with under 10secs left, but yet put the ball on the deck and try to create. I saw the cpu exploit mismatches. I saw basketball.

I love the rebounding, the fouls(got called for riding Pierce to the basket) the rim physics and the overall atmosphere of the game. Its amazing how well the game captures the sport.

The only beef I have, and its my own not the game, is adjusting to the shot stick. I'll try to make a move with the ball handler, instinctly press the R-stick(used to EA College basketball) and put up a ridiculous shot. Other than that, I'm having a blast and absolutely cannot wait until the 5th(not because its my birthday) but because I'm finally going to have a game, at least I anticipate having a game, that captures the authenticity of its sport as well as the Show does for baseball.

Kudos to 2k and I'm begging you, absolutely begging you to bring back college hoops.

CB

They still have that awkward full court pass animation that they've had for years where the guy like throws it with one arm on the run? I haven't been able to play the demo yet but I was watching a gameplay video and someone threw that pass I thought they finally got rid of that

Has anyone seen this?
Yeah, there's no reason Ray Allen should be turning down wide open 3s in the 1st quarter.

Two things:
1.) Did they fix the height of the ball being released on a post-move (IE: KG shooting on a post-move resulting in him shooting the ball at the very top of the backboard)
2.) Any clue if the custom soundtrack will be available for the ps3?
the ps3 has custom soundtracks i do believe

i thnk i read it somewhere....maybe in the presentation insight...not sure where but i kno i read it

The post game is still bugging me just a bit. Besides being able to manually post, most of the moves seem similar. When backing down in the post, the computer seems to decide which shoulder we have turned to the defender. For example, I have Kobe dribbling with his right hand on the top side of the floor. As soon as I back down, the computer automatically turns your shoulder switches the dribble to the left. If I remember correctly, 2k9's post game gave you the ability to decide which shoulder you wanted turned to the defender when backing down. You could even switch which hand you were dribbling with while engaged in the post. Please tell me if 2k11 has this ability.

everything looks great and plays out well on the court including movement and spacing. what i don't like is the lack of control on defense. i don't feel like i have full control of my player on D and the ability to man up and body up the ball handler. defense was terrible last year and i was looking for a huge improvement. i just haven't felt that playing the demo this year. hopefully things are better on the retail version? it also could be this camera angle.

rebounding isn't as good as last year IMO and there isn't a lot of boxing out and physical battles for the board down low. when players jump for the rebound, the animations are pretty awkward at times too.

Why would you post w/ your back to the defense? You post up with your back to the baseline so you can see help, see cutters, see open teammates, etc.

You dont face a defender when you post up. You have your back to the defender.
