Re: NBA 2K11: Ten Teams in Ten Days - Day 2: San Antonio Spurs (Da_Czar)

First and foremost, Da_Czar. Thank you. I played basketball up through college and it used to drive me mad that plays didn't function as they should've. Anytime I took a team into association mode I would literally have to change their playbook to the only 20 or so plays in the game that consistently worked. And by that I mean weren't broken after 2 seconds, or didn't take 34 seconds to fully execute. So by the time the game was a few months old. I was really tired of no other plays consistently working. I don't need to score or even get open every time. I just wanted the plays to work, be fluid, and force the defense into making decisions regarding who to follow, how to defend screens, etc.

That being said, what i am more excited about than Jordan, Jordan moments, classic teams, the new playbook, and all of the other new features. Is court spacing secondly, the fact your teammates get the hell out of your way and don't stand 4 feet away from each other and stand around. Or as you're driving, they actually run towards you, clogging up what was once an open lane. But primarily, I'm really excited that the defense doesn't have their super sprint catch up logic whenever you do happen to get open.

Last year, though with RSpencers sliders it made a big difference. You would work your butt off to get an open look, but no matter how burnt your defender was, he would be all over you in .2 seconds. If you watch the NBA, a team with good ball movement like the Celtics. They constantly swing the ball and they're so wide open at times, they can literally gather themselves, be patient, line up their shot, and nail it. Because the defense has been attacked with crisp ball movement. In 2k10. Even if they sent a double team after your post player, you could swing the ball to the offensive player who's defender had just left him for the double. And the next defender would be over to him in .2 seconds, so you'd swing the ball again to another wide open guy, who would have the center/power forward catch up to him in .2 seconds. It was infuriating. So to know that this year, you will actually be rewarded for great, precise ball movement when used in the flow of your offense or when the defense has been caught off guard or broken down. Is really a thing of beauty. It will be so nice to be able to get those clean open looks that we see dozens of times per game in the NBA.

In the "controls" tutorial video. Derrick Rose does a spin layup on Greg Oden. Oden, who is big and an above average shot blocker, is also very slow. Rose spins around him and all Oden can do is watch as Rose puts up a pretty off the glass fade/floater type shot. It was really cool to not see him attain superhuman speed to close out. He got burnt and that was that, was forced to watch. But more importantly, since he knew he was beat, he STAYED PUT because it's his job to get the rebound if he can't get a stop. Those 10 seconds of that clip made this wait almost unbearable.

Czar, quick question for you now that I think of it. In years past, it's been very difficult, though possible. To take someone smaller like CP3 and dominate. He could never truly break anyone down and if he went up for a layup he would often get blocked because of nothing besides height differential. In your two videos it looked like Parker and Westbrook were able to use their speed to gain advantages and get open layups, which is very true to life and NBA accurate. However, those two are a bit taller than CP3. If you've played with CP3. Have you noticed whether or not you could truly dominate with him? Don't get me wrong, I've had games where I score 30+ with him. But it's a very, very difficult 30 points and I don't feel as though I'm able to consistently get buckets the way he does in real life. Thanks for your response if you're able to. I appreciate your work.

first of to all of you, well chosen words in your posts, all have good points in it.

yes i've seen all those videos from 2-10min gameplay footage.
they show improvement but certainly not in the areas i would like to see. still i would prefer a postive suprise when i get my hands on the completed version.

i also downloaded the gamescon video in 720p and 60fps, no doubt - in points of fluid motions it looks really really great - cant argue that. i almost can't recognize seeing animations.

i'm just wondering why ppl only see my post criticizing points of the game i didn't criticized ?

my point of view is what does it help to have no canned animations and great playcalling systems if the game still ignores actual physics and has defensive AI which doesn't recognize 70% of whats happening around them.

e.g. in one vid rondo drives to the hoop and the defending center is glued to his assignment watching him going up to the uncontested lay-up and starts to contest when he got the bucket.

or being still able to dunk into 3 defenders.

i see they are giving the offense even more and better possibilities while the defensive evolution in this game seems to be virtually stagnant.

czars spurs vid showed yesterday some nice footage where the defense played well but as i said, in the past i've seen it in other versions as well and the retail version had way to many flaws i explored while playing more and more.

i would like to see 2k11 proving me wrong but i just dont expect it after 2k9 and 2k10. thats my last statement in this regard.

i wrote this post so u dont flag me here as a natural born hate.r and public enemy without being able to bring up more explained critic or why i chose to "stop" some of the euphoria

excuse me if i dont make myself sometimes as clear as it could be as im not an english-speaking native

nice weekend to all of you

greets from berlin, germany

The Spurs used to be my team other than the Raptors. I never ran plays before, just used ball movement to find the open shot, but after looking at this, I might have to go back lol
