It's the beginning of August, and hockey may not be the first thing on your mind when you wake up in the morning. But both NHL and EASHL teams are preparing for next season by signing free agents and trading players.

During the offseason, teams try to maintain a winning lineup or build one that can win in the future. In the NHL, the process can be a long one. It takes time to build the perfect lineup by drafting promising young players and mixing them with older, more established players.

For EASHL teams, the schedule is tighter. Since there are monthly seasons, you have to be on top of your game from the very beginning if you want to make the playoffs at the end of the "regular" season.

Very cool article. I had my own team in the eashl this year with just a few friends, but quickly became addicted to it. Winning was nice, but it was just about playing.

This year i'd like to take it a little more seriously and see if i can make the playoffs. The problem is I don't like playing with guys who whine when a teammate makes a mistake. I know hockey, i've played it my entire life, so it's usually not me that makes the mistake. Hearing someone ***** at someone for a bad pass though is pathetic.

Anyway, I'm a good player, and looking for a team. (PS3) I know this isnt the eashl forum but if you'reinterested, send mea msg.

Being a GM on a top Casual team, I can tell you that it's almost always the off-season in the EASHL. Because it's so easy to come and go, unlike the NHL, thr roster is never a stagnant entity. Rather, it's always volatile and dynamic, even on a top club like ours.

I would love to see a contract feature be put in place for the EASHL. I know the logistics are a nightmare, but it would be extremely cool to sign free agents to contracts and have a little bit of commitment. Going both ways, from club to player and player to club.

Yeah I think there should be a limit on club hopping, would limit the number of clubs as well that people create just for a night.

Yes, this would be nice. And a salary cap as well, salary could be based on your stats?

I'm the GM of CAnAM Connection, we are currently in the top 5 of the Pro league of the EASHL (XBL). I have heard from a few players that some of the top guys have formed clubs, achieved a good rank & then have sold them for MS points.

I have never actually seen it done, but have spoken with a few players who have said they did it. As for the top teams and players...the EASHL is fantastic, but there is alternative leagues out there that are becoming more and more popular. Take for example the VHL, or LNHL...both are gaining players and respect. Free agency in the EASHL is a revolving door and it's definitely a challenge to minimize the club hoppers & still be a competitive top team.
