Leave the DL's to the AI and watch the star DLs vanish.

Even with the dang jump the snap..the defensive linemen are pretty much in the game just for show.

Im glad that manual DL play is less suction blockish, and you can rip your way through with a good one. Im going to need it when I play head to head
sportyguyfl31 did you play NCAA 10?

The reason why i ask is because depending on the level you prefered....sacks occured pretty realistic in NCAA 10 with you controlling a DL or not....

Of course if your talking Heisman level where the suction blocking basically made it pointless to play DL you weren't going to get much push up the middle

But on the level I played on last year in NCAA 10 the OL vs DL play was fair and fun. I could play MLB and my DE's and DT's would get a pass rush on their own.....in fact most guys who decided to give the level I played on fair shot will tell you sacks weren't a problem in the game. We had to eventually lower the pass rush slider because the DL was getting too much heat on their own.

that'd be one thing, but they wouldn't use a patch on just gloves it would most likely cover any other issues

EA has earned my skepticism over the years for always saying the game is "much" better than the demo. This thought process I have reguarding EA football games is not something I just conjured up, its based on performance. I do not want to see this game fail, I love it, I have played these EA football games since the very first one.

I think more guys need to take into consideration this is just a demo instead of going full speed ahead and assuming this how the game will be in the retail version. Now i know EA has a history of releasing certain games broken.....but this game IMO appears to be really solid

I would also like to point out on the retail version you can fine tune the pass defense with sliders....you know like jack up the CPU to 100 awareness if you like.

There's like several things you can do to make the pasing game more difficult if you so choose.....but I think the best thing we can all do is just waite for the retail version 1st instead of attempting a deep pass on every play or trying on side kicks every kick off
Over the years EA's demos have been similar to the retail versions of the game. Did turning up the defensive coverage ability help out 09's massive issues? The code in this demo is fundamentaly broken, I think I can say that in here when someone scores 68 points with 2:00 minute quarters. And is this not part of the code that will launch with the game on july the 13th? Why would I trust some info that the retail game is way better considering EA's recent history reguarding this? Remember the wideopen gameplay code? Well this looks like take 2 of that only with the great idea of locomotion potentially going to waste. Some of these 5 wide plays work every single time, the computer simply does not cover. I would love for the retail game to have an accurate portral of college football defenses, but nothing in the past tells me its going to play out that way.

How does this game appear to be really solid from the demo? I want to hear this. How does a football video game demo in this day and age appear to be solid when the defense is fundamentally borked?

Your asking me how I drew the conclusion that the reatill version will be this bad? Uh...from the demo that you agreed above is messed up. You say "EA has a history of releasing broken games" but then you say its a "solid game" based off what? Kind of sounds like some ambivalent comments from you there.

You say above that you" realize EA has a history of releasing broken games" could you be more specific here?

"Attempting a deep pass on every play"? So were supposed to play a competitive matchup with a computer knowing full well there are plays that it does not understand how to stop or make any attempt to adjust its defenses accordingly whatsoever.

Re: NCAA Football 11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here

In the first 72 hours of the demo being released, I'm amazed how many gamers are anointing the game as 'G.O.A.T.' I too noticed some improvement, but needless to say, I'm not as impressed as many others.
It seems that every year a new NCAA Football game demo is released, many gamers create a blog or thread praising the game and saying nothing but good things, and even sometimes get angry at the criticism of others! However, after the game has been on shelves for about 3 months, the same gamers are online complaining about how unrealistic and inadequate the game is.

I feel that EA Sports has greatly improved what I like to call the 'glamor' aspects of the game while minimally making improvements to the actual gameplay.
By 'GLAMOR', I am referring to the changes in presentation, lighting, and replays; Nike Pro Combat Uniforms; New multi-colored cleats and other accesories (gloves, towels, ankle and knee braces, etc); team entrances; on-field referrees; and the much hyped 'Locomotion' and 'Pro Tak' tackling.
I admit, all of this looks GREAT and I like it a lot! However, I'd give it all up in exchange for better GAMEPLAY. So my question is, how long will it take before the 'glamor' wears off and gamers begin to notice the flaws and shortcomings of this soon-to-be $60 game? How long before those praising it so much begin to see the good, the bad, and the ugly? Will EA Sports be able to work out some of the kinks before the July 13th release, or is this a finished product?

Beyond the 'Glamor', I have noticed:
  • Gameplay seems totally geared towards the offense (besides 'Pro Tak', it doesn't seem that much if any emphasis was placed on improving defensive gameplay)
  • Too many dropped passes (especially wide open receivers and on big plays)
  • DL play is still awful (can't generate pressure from front 4, but CPU creates tons every play; D-Linemen get pancaked and/or fall down just about every play when attempting to swim past blockers)
  • Too many missed tackles (defense looks like chaos on this game; tacklers are falling and diving in every direction but at the ball carrier)
  • Players appear to be skating on ice, sliding all over the place; In my opinion, the running animation doesn't look much more realistic than NCAA 10
  • CPU too souped up on Heisman (they cause lots of pressure on D, but they can sit in the pocket alllllll day on offense; Typical magical CPU A.I. always knows your silent audibles and shift the right way every time you audible; always knows to pass if you run commit before snap or run if you pass commit, etc.)
  • User catch still sucks (WRs are still disabled from facing up and leaping for a catch...like Julio Jones, AJ Green, Malcolm Williams, Jeff Fuller, and all other 6'3" and up college WRs do every week)
  • I’ve played this demo about 30 games or so now and I have yet to see ONE SINGLE pass interference call! Yet, I’ve seen plenty WRs getting bumped and pushed while the ball is in the air.
  • Offense seems to move at a faster pace than defense
  • ‘Locomotion’ feels 'off' a tad bit (watch as you juke from left to right how all of the cpu defenders also juke with you in unison)
  • Too many fumbles!!! (the only way this can be avoided is by choosing 'Conservative' on the 'Big Run' option in the 'Gameplan' screen)

There are other issues I've noticed as well, but I'll stop there. After while, I began to feel that playing NCAA 10 was an insult to football inteligence and I swore I'd not buy NCAA 11. However, with the release of the demo, I was VERY 'glamored' the first day! Now that I've played through the week, I'm beginning to have second thoughts. I cannot bear another year of 'cheeser-friendly' bad gameplay!

stevedrums, I have to agree. For this very reason, I went back to the NCAA 10 demo I still have on my hard drive and played it, immediately followed by playing my actual NCAA 10 disc. The difference in gameplay was very minimal, if even noticeable.

Yup..I played NCAA 10 a ton.

Ive been following your slider edits since the days of NBA Live 05, so I know that you do good work at end.

My issue isnt mearly DL sacks though..its more a issue of fundamentals. The slider edits cant mask that, because it is a core programming issue.

I could live with the yellow zone coverage being weaker then it should be..if I could take a Suh like DT, control him, and do things like this

">

">

The DLs are programmed to run straight to the blockers..not to shoot gaps as interior linemen, or run the arc as edge rushers.

I'm willing to bet my life on the following happening: When the retail version drops..the same people who are being wowed..are going to take this game online, experience fastbreak football, and are going to be back on this forum, ranting and raving.

Im going to be able to have a good time, and play okay defense in this game, only because I know going in, that I am going to be forced to cover slot/inside receivers manually..not because of any programming improvements.

Ugh..dont know why the link copied twice.

somebody wrote that your wr can't jump ball and they can i've done it it realistic though its not guaranteed and its really based on your position to the ball if your a little behind with the corner in front of you most likely you won't catch it. there also leap catch and you fall to your back.
