John Madden pushing for authenticity in the game is a "curse"? Am I missing something here?

I could be wrong, though.
That would make sense, but EA Tiburon has a habit of adding a "new" feature then not expanding or building on it. Will the adaptive AI that was nearly useless last year work better? Will pro tak be tuned to enhance player interaction greatly? From the looks of the vids, nothing has improved.

I'm glad that people here continue to question EA and their ability to NOT do things 5 years into a generational cycle that should have been important long ago. They always set themselves up to look foolish when hundreds of thousands of people play the game. Nobody can talk me into believing that it doesn't look like "robots on ice" still. The lack of true weight transferring into momentum is frustrating. EA will say this is the year, until its released, get exposed, then say next year we'll put it in the game, same song, different year. I'm not saying the game is terrible, but I do expect more from the ONLY NFL GAME for the last 6 years. Realism is the name of the game, not gimmicks, chain gangs to referees to multiple man tackles, all have always been "in the game" and should not be promoted as a feature. As the guy said in the video there have been years when Madden wasn't recieved well, except they won't say which year, cuz that would make the whole hype machine that lead up to its release look like total bs. Hmmmm.

Lol seriously, you could see all those things ( Refs, Gang tackles, Chain Gang ) since the black and white days of football but yet we just got it in last year in Madden. Not to mention weak gang tackling at that. I gave up on Madden because I don't need a video game to live, a pretty bad one at that. I'll just wait for the EPIC 2k return and boy will it be EPIC! You don't even got to tell 2k what to put in, they always remember the little things such as player specific animations, equipment, advanced fan cheering, etc.. and completely make the most of what they got to produce game with tons of replay value.

True but if that is what Phil was referring to then thats just completely SAD. That was 6 freakin' years ago so he better not be dwelling in those days anymore. Beside I bought 2K5 that year so in a way it wasn't a success because 2K5 drove 'em to be what they are today.

Yep--and there are actually people that don't get it's all marketing based. This is one area where Madden shines: Marketing. New year another whiz-bang new best feature ever (only to be dropped or ignored the next year).

I don't fault EA. When you've got plenty of sheeple willing to drop coin on the game, why do anything different?
