Re: NCAA Football 11 Hands-On Preview

I wish I could sell you guys real estate investments...or Credit Default Swaps!

I have thought that previous years took the cake for gullibility, but this thread is taking the cake on that angle. I feel like I'm watching Groundhog Day or something...."Phil?!?!? Phil Connors?!?!?! It's me...NED RYERSON!!!"

I'm just waiting for the circle to become complete - first impressions and screens = drool-fest and online kleenex time, first video (usually later called 'pre-alpha' or 'VERY early') = seppeku time and despair, EA releases more hype videos and interviews promising more depth, total overhauls of this and total ground up rewrites of that, blah blah blah, the cattle on these boards resume slobbering and making asinine statements of 'maybe THIS IS THE YEAR', and everyone knows the rest of the cycle by now...

If EA gets 95% of everything correct, that remaining 5% will be 'game killers' for almost everyone who is now slobbering on themselves; by August, the hate and 'we were so lied to' and 'i am never buying another EA game EVAH!' threads will reappear...

If people can get past their "WOW THATS A LOW PRICE" reactions long enough to objectively look at those vids they will see what is REALLY there - players still move in jerky ways and start their movement animations in completely wrong ways, blocking is still dicey and in my eyes is going to be wide open to exploits and glitches because EA's track record for adding new features to their games is nearly 100% totally FUBAR in year one...

Enjoy the Kool Aid gents, I am not drinking it any longer. If EA 'wows' me with a great game, then I promise to return to slobber all over it and give the dev-team and EA marketing some big wet e-love....but until then, consider me completely unmoved by the hype train...seen this pattern all too often in the last 5 years to believe it even a little bit.

It's hard not to be skeptical, this review is going to generate so much hype. Please if anything is actually fixed let it be OLine DLine interaction.
I actually read another preview somewhere else (gamespot??) that said there was still suction blocking. I really find it hard to believe EA did away with that because it's crucial to how the game works so that the game doesn't become defensive oriented (which EA does not want).

Maybe i'm just being a negative nelly here but no suction blocking? I find it impossible to believe until I play it. No matter who says it or how many people say it in previews.

Good for you on making your decision, but why does it even matter to you how other's view this stuff? If people like it, they are going to like it, but theirs honestly no reason for posts like that. If you don't like it, say so and move on till they impress you or don't impress whichever it be. Just don't get yourself worked up about other's thouh. No point to it.

I see your point but I see where he's coming from too. I think what he may be saying, and what I *am* saying, is that if people quit letting themselves get so ridiculously hyped up then maybe when the game came out they'd not have sky-high expectations and then be able to just enjoy it more each year.

I am most certainly looking forward to getting this game, I will try to get it early as well, like I do every year. But I'm expecting a minimal improvement, a realistic expectation I believe. Therefor I doubt I'll be disappointed. But so many folks build this up so high that the game will always disappoint them.

Don't let EA or anyone on this forum set your expectations so high that the game will only disappoint!!

It depends on how you want to see the game evolve. People like me, who have been yelling for more detail( ie equipment) and presentation upgrades can already be fairly sure that the game will deliver on that front. I haven't purchased an NCAA game since the last gen consoles and the big reason for that was because i felt the game lacked authenticity. It just didn't feel like what i was used to watching on Saturdays. The same could be said for Madden(which imo, they corrected last year). To the people still yelling about 'gameplay' or AI, there is something they have to keep in mind, this is a video game and will NEVER, completely replicate what you see in real life. I think a large portion of the ppl complaining forget this, most likely due to the fact they aren't real gamers. They don't play a lot of other games outside of sports titles, or because they are such big sports fans, they are picking up on things that most ppl don't notice. The AI just wont be able to completely replicate the thought patterns of real life players, at least not any time soon. Now im not saying i dont want the animations, control and AI cleaned up, but at the same time, i recognize this is an imitation of real life, not a clone and i think a lot of ppl forget that.

I agree with you ODogg, I feel the same exact way. Honestly if they fixed the 90 degree turning I was gong to be happy this year. And I'd probably say the same thing I said to him about the people who get extremly hyped then continue to try to yell at the people who aren't impressed. I can think of one such person who deos that off the top of my head, but I won't name names. His post just seems to me like a copycat post of what crimsontide said in the original gameplay vid thread and I just don't believe its necessary to see it everywhere we go in the forums. It gets kind of annoying.

I would trade team-specific entrances and more uniform options for bowl patches any day...
