Re: Madden NFL 11 Exclusive Debut Trailer

watched the trailer and it was exactly what i expected.

EA has a way of creating band-aids for issues that plagued the game the year before and then marketing them as a new feature. i think this years band-aid is the "play 60 in 30". this "new" feature looks to be a fix for the stat problems from last years game.

This looks like the same garbage they put out last year. Unrealistic running motions. Unrealistics cutting and juking and spinning. How can they claim new animations when it's exactly the same as last year? I'm not giving EA any more money until this whole development team is replaced with some real innovators.

Take a look at the quote below.

Quote:
This locomotion engine translates to defense as well by allowing users more control of their respective player. It also seems to have eliminated the magnetic attraction to blockers that has plagued EA football games for years. The defensive locomotion has also tweaked the efficiency of the hit stick, making big hits a lot harder and more rewarding to pull off.
He did talk about blocking down below.

Completely New Line Blocking AI

An even more significant gameplay improvement comes in the form of all new blocking assignment AI. In hopes of eliminating the OS Blocking Complaint threads, the AI blocking logic has been completely rewritten to eliminate suction blocking and make sure linemen are never standing still. Ben took me through a couple examples where a center would actively search out a man to block during pass protection. During these examples, I could see the center's head swiveling as he actively searched for the best person to block.

On the defensive side of the ball -- and as someone who plays exclusively as a lineman against the CPU -- I was extremely impressed with the line interaction. I was able to get heat on the opposing QB in realistic scenarios, and both power and finesse moves actually work this year, which should lead to far more potential sack opportunities and QB disruptions. It seems to finally be fun to be a lineman again.
It was a good preview (positive view that is), but I don't know the previewer, and he started the article off by defending the preview which is strange. Almost like he feels he has to justify his view. A reviewer shouldn't need to do that in a preview. I tend to trust reviewers based on past experiences with games that they have reviewed so I can get a gauge for their ability.

IMO

Im going to have to see this to believe it because it didnt work in NBA Live

You either connect with the defender and magically slide over to the side which is something I saw in the video, or you get suctioned into a contact animation.

I would Love to see this remedied but I am HIGHLY skeptical

I saw the HB slide over a Guard in one of the runs. No incidental contact added. I tried to watch the Oline/Dline blocking closely and it did look like the Oline was attacking the Dline more than the Dline being pulled into the OLine, but that doesn't mean it's fixed, and it was a really hard read as there's only a couple of steps there before contact. In M10, you could have a guy running up the field for a block and he'd turn and run left to block a guy literally on the other side of the field. Suction blocking was evil in M10. I didn't like seeing 20 guys all at the point of tackle at the end of the play. That felt magnetic.

I suggested 'On the field. In the action' or something along those lines. That seems to be the goal this release (sadly), to streamline the experience, keeping the gamer in the game and less in the menus.

I honestly don't understand the decision to focus on streamlining the experience when they haven't gotten the experience down right yet. Feels like the cart is in front of the proverbial horse. We're going to make it easier to do something that doesn't quite work right yet. I'd much rather spend the extra time in the menus and play something that works. Their goal was to bring in the casual gamers though, not to make more realistic/sim game of football this release. That's not to say they aren't trying to make some aspects of it more realistic (such as locomotion), but it's easy to see that their ultimate goal was to engage casual gamers (GameFlow, Coach in Ear, Breaking down plays).

I can't quite fault them for making the game for the casual gamers. The game has really gotten too complex for casual gamers. Unfortunately the casual gamers needs don't meet this gamers needs.

Yeah I don't like the slogan either. When I heard back in December or January iirc, I was worried because it sounded like Madden 09.

But Ian said not to be worried and a thought came to my mind that they are somehow going to make casual gamers play more sim. I was right in thinking that since that's what the gameflow feature is going to do while still making the game faster for them to play.

honestly, gameflow sounds really good. Too bad so many people assume it's casual due to the game's motto.

Anything that forces people to play like the teams actually do in real life shouldn't be getting bashed at all.
