I can see wanting players to have the correct equipment or having a large selection of alternate uniforms but really when it comes to details of this small of a level how much time do most of us spend while playing the game actually looking at the player's faces? Most may look once or twice but after that not so much.
I don't think its "wasting resourses." MLB The Show has proven for years now that you can have beautiful graphics as well as great gameplay.

Thats why everybody is chasing The Show. And thats what SCEA does for The Show, they tweak it little by little and each year it looks more and more like TV.

I think Madden's taking the right steps

Yea, how do we know the new screenshot is actual gameplay? The bottom could just simply be a texture-downgrade that is activated during actual gameplay (when there are 22 guys on the field + crowd + sideline).

I'm not reading all the posts, but I've already seen a few complaints about QB's looking thinner than they should. If they paid attention in the past, they'd know why QB's don't quite look right in Madden.

I suppose most people aren't aware that Flak-Jackets haven't been in Madden on Next-Gen. Some may not even know what a Flak-Jacket is. For those unaware, "Flak-Jackets" are a piece of equipment most QB's in the league wear to protect themselves from the blows they take. The padding is a bit above the waist, and gives the QB a "bigger" look.

So stop complaining about the size of the players. The QB's would look fine if they had the Flak-Jackets in the game. I believe it's something they're looking to get into this years game, since they didn't have time to get it in last years.

Nobody ever seems to get this.

There are 22 players on the field at all times in football. There's only 10 in baseball (if we're not counting the refs/umpires, the guy on deck, and the 1st/3rd base coach). Rendering 22 players in high resolution takes up more resources than 10 players. That's part of why SCEA is capable of putting out a beautiful game year in and year out. They have the extra space to work with, unlike Madden.

Ever notice the dull sidelines in Madden? That's because almost all of the resources are poured onto the field, giving Madden a great graphical look. If you've played APF, you can see the hit graphics take when rendering more than 22 interactive player models at one time. APF has interactive sidelines, which is awesome. But the graphics are far from stellar. In a thread a long time ago, I recall Ian posing a question to the community asking if they'd be willing to give up a little on graphics, to gain in other areas. I will attempt to find the thread for you guys.

If EA wasn't going to be put at risk by consumers for losing graphical value in Madden, then they would be able to do a lot more with the game.
