One of the few flaws with 2009. I am good on the ground to and can reverse most people I fight almost at will. Their timing with transitions is so repetitive that it is simple to get the reverse down.

But that is a flaw because Cheick Kongo should not be able to reverse Frank Mir over and over from his back. The game needs to be a little more heavy on ratings and less on stick skill. Even though I see the reasoning behind it, I think it hurts the game.

I love fighting on the ground. The only time I like standing up is w/ someone who has good clinch ratings

I also think UFC is gonna blow EA MMA out of the water with more features, gameplay balance, online. etc. but i think EA MMA will have the better engine since its using FN4's

Yup. I know I will probably enjoy both games a lot, but EA MMA actually has me more intrigued right now. I love the fluidity of striking with the analog and the engine of FNR4. It's not perfect by any means, but the standup should be really good in that game. As fun as UFC is, the striking leaves a lot to be desired for me. If EA MMA has a decent ground game system, I don't see why it can't be a great alternative.

This. Those people who love to button smash on their feet usually arent good on the ground. If you wanna cheese on your feet then enjoy my GNP. Count me in on the fight camp as well.

The thing I struggle with is timing on reversals. It seems that whenever I gain a dominant position, I get reversed, yet I can't do the same. Against the CPU, I have no problems on the ground but against another human opponent, things just don't go my way.

They're different for each transition depending on where you are and where the opponent is (and whether they're doing a major, minor, or signature transition). It's a quick RS flick and it's always at the same point in the animation... I basically learned them just by labbing against the CPU and letting him transition at will then reversing when he tried the situation I was practicing for. The easiest for me was always them posturing up from close guard to open guard as well as them trying to roll our of your side control with a major transition (they lift their shoulder up from the mat and it's super-easy to time).

And yeah, the reversals and ground game was the thing that kinda killed the game online for me after a while. When you'd end up against someone skilled and it got to the ground it was often a stalemate while each side waited to go for a reversal. And as Phobia mentioned, it's ridiculous that someone with no ground game like Kongo could reverse someone like Noguiera at any time if the timing was right on the flick.. even worse is that it doesn't really matter how dominant the position was, it is just as easy to reverse them from side control as it is when they have close guard or another weak control position.

Great post. I can also sumbit someone w/ Lesnar or Rampage if my opponent is tired
